Hi,

After tfar too long thinking, i am having a living room move around and will be looking for a dedicated BD player for my projector. Using my Panny DMP-BD80 motion and movement are ok but a bit more fluidity and control would make a 'HUGE' difference when using on my large screen.

So which is best up to around £500 but preferably less?

Comments from similar Panny users who have upgraded, and 50htz screen owners would be really appreciated.

Thanks all,

Yes,

Great article you were involved in. Couldn't find a review of the 5004 anywhere and commented on your findings and lack of WHF review or other for that matter on the forum. Appreciate its down to the supplier though to issue kit for review.

Is there much of a difference between this and the 7004? Appreciate your kit is suited to a 'more' premium spec.

and was the DVD scaling decent?

Big Thanks

+1.for the Marantz BD5004. It really is a fantastic machine at a fair price. I went from a PS3 and the jump in quality was massive.
The DVD upscaling is really good as well. If/when I upgrade my HC equipment this will be the last to go (if at all).
Audition it : you'll be impressed

I do like the 570 for it's functionality. I must admit I use it more for iplayer than BDs, it's part of a more casual set-up in my lounge and it may be a tad unfair to compare it to the Marantz.
In terms of build quality and pure looks the Sony cannot compare to the Marantz.

If it was my money and I was buying tomorrow it would be the marantz every time even with the big price diff.

Hello,

I use a EH-TW3500 projector wth a 16:9 screen about 2m wide at just under 3m distance. No motion interpolation on the projector, or high refresh rates. With a 24 FPS signal it be set to repeat each frame twice to give 48Hz and reduce flicker if I want.

I've just bought a Samsung bdp c6900. I now it didn't get the greatest review in WHF, but other reviews rate it, many saying it's incredibly close the the quality of the Oppo bdp83. Having seen it briefly in action I bought one.

I've got to say I've seen no issues at all with motion having watched most of Casino Royale, and the beginning of Dark Knight and 2012, (I have had it less than a week!). Having seen the WHF comments on motion, I've been watching out for it especially, but I've been really pleased. It feels very easy and fluid when you're watching it, and when I was watching the beginning of Dark Knight before the film start proper I was really impressed with how fluid the motion was.

I'm not saying you don't see the film inherent judder occasionally, which can't be helped without motion interpolation technology, (jst been to the cinema and it was present there for example), but other than that this is a great player for motion, (and all round), in my opinion so far.

Having just been to the Odeon the picture on my projector, including motion, is better than in the cinema. Gret upscaler too, easily beating my XDE500 which I thought was impressive.

Just offering an experience by the way as per your original post. Not saying it's better than the Marantz as I've never seen it.

But then the Samsung can be had for just over £200. Very fast to load as well, and has some of the newer features.
