Best Amplifier for Surround

Just wanted your opinion about the best amplifier I can get mainly for music. I want a asurround one, so I can not only listen to stereo but also surround movies.

The price tag is around 500 pounds.

Short answer IMO:

Yamaha RXV863. I don't know UK prices but I think that hits the budget. For surround I believe the Onkyo '06's to be superior, but for Musicality as well as surround Yamaha has it.

if you can do without the bells n whistles of newer kit.. i.e decoding of hd audio etc, i'd go for either arcam avr 280 or 350 both a absolute bargain atm with the new/end of line discounting.

yeah very very reasonable atm! £399 for the avr 280 and £599 for the avr350
