find yourself an Onkyo 875 if you need the latest hd codecs - were selling for around £600 to £650 was £1000 when first released or arcam avr350 £600 at moorgate accoustics was £1500 when first released if you want an amp thats better for music

You're ideally looking at amps like the Yamaha RXV3800, which can be had for around your budget at the moment. I certainly wouldn't recommend any of the budget amps to partner with high quality floorstanders. 606's and the like are more ideal for 5.1 packages under £700/800 like KEF's 2005.

Agree on the Onkyo 875 front. Great amp that'll certainly have the grunt and quality to drive your M.As. You may even be lucky and find a 905 for your money.

Not heard the 3800, but it was a £1300 amp, so if it's available at your budget, definitely have a listen.

if you're going to be using it for music as well don't overlook the arcam but guess it depends what you use most - you can still get the latest hd codecs with the arcam but the source must be able to ouput the info using a full set of outputs so for example the PS3s out!

If you can cope with only 2 hdmi, you can get the Denon 2808 for as little as £399 - see hot deals on the forum.

the 875 has everything you will need 4 hdmi in 1 out and upscales all inputs to 1080p - best upscaling chip i have seen - more power than you will ever need unless you live in a field - had mine about 3 months and can't fault it at all. the 606 is so far below it not even worth discussing in same sentence - i don't know the denon

The 2808 has upscaling to 1080p and upconversion from everything to hdmi. It's far better the Onkyo 606.

onkyo does, i'm not sure about denon - denon only has 2 hdmi in - im my opinion not enough - i am already using all 4 on the onkyo and could do with another

just read specs on denon don't think anywhere near as hi-speced as onkyo

I'm currently using Onkyo TX-SR605 for my RS6s (5.1) and Velodyne subs...I think they do the job perfectly. ÿI've never tried them on anything higher than my current AV receiver but so far so good. ÿIf you're looking at the 605s, I suggest then the 606s since the 605s have stopped production (?).

I had the 875 for 4 mths now, very pleased with it.
Have just fitted Clarity Caps to the RS8 crossovers, mid / upper range detail and clarity is transformed. The best £40 I have spent for a long while, you need to get the soldering iron out, but it is a straight forward replacement.
