The 27" Samsung we bought two years ago has just been written off by the insurance company ( Shadowy lines on screen not repairable) so we now are waiting for a £500 voucher from Argos so we can then get a replacement from their store .

My question is which TVs should we be looking at , the TV will live in the living room and viewing distances range from six foot to eight foot an will only be fed with standard definition DVD at best .

Thanks in advance

Do you have to get your TV from Argos? If the insurers are involved why can they not payout a cheque rather than force you into a credit note? The reason I ask is that I would love to recomend the Pana 37px80 to you but it's £685 in Argos and there are much cheaper options to be found eg. http://digitaltechmart.biz/product_info.php?currency=GBP&products_id=11417. I got mine in January for £500 from comet so £685 seems steep to me.

I sit a similar distance as you do, primarily watching SD and think for the money there is no better TV. If you have to go argos then still consider it as it will only cost you £185 so and IMO should be worth it.

If you cannot put any of your own money into a purchase then perhaps the 32" sony v4000 is a good option at argos but again you are paying a premium for buying the TV from argos at £490 when it can be found for http://www.clickadeal.com/sony-kdl-32v4000-lcd-television-32-inch-82-cm-16-9-standard-resolution-freeview-hdmi-x3.html?csid=026ff6190b0a26d0d991b7b995e2e209&sl=EN&currency=

Plus for £500 there are better 32" TV's out there than the v4000 - see WHF reviews site.

Ask for a cheque rather than a credit note and get the best TV you can, or buy the TV elsewhere and use the credit note to get something else (you would think something costing this much http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4260011/c_1/1%7Ccat_12108409%7CSmall+kitchen+appliances%7C12108488/Trail/searchtext%3ECOFFEE.htm would make great coffee (with the right beans!)

Good luck

The letter we received from Allianz says that we have to use a voucher to the value of £500 at Argos so until it arrives and I read the small print it looks like the TV will have to come from Argos , thanks for the info' .
