Might make clear sense to you guys, for me nada.
First question, does PCM over HDMI give the same decode benefits for al HD audio scenarios??
Secondly, don't believe my amp decodes audio over HDMI, just carries video and upconverts, hence my question re analogue out quality
Can be wrong, looking out there to all the gurus
Thanks
Ok, I might be wrong here but I'm assuming your receiver can send audio but just cannot decode the HD codecs. If this is the case, all you need to do is connect your Bluray player to it using a decent hdmi cable. And then in the settings on the BD player, you can make the player decode the audio and then send it through to your amp.
If you go the analogue way, yes, I reckon the quality would be pretty much the same but I don't think you need to add 6 or 8 cables when one hdmi should work.
Confirmation; I've just read an old review of your receiver. The reviewer connected the Yamaha to an HD DVD player:
"This was a first for me
- getting to experience
HD and DD+ in all
of its glory via one
HDMI connection (Note:
Toshiba player decoding,
Yamaha handling bass
management). The audio
was simply awesome! Gone were the
compressed artifacts during loud dynamic
scenes I've so commonly experienced via
standard Dolby Digital. This HD DVD
sounded as good as some of the best DTS
multi-channel recordings I've heard."
