I am considering buying over ear headphones for my iphone, however, I was concerned about the battery consumption compared to the in-ears I have. Is it a substantial difference in battery usage? I wouldn't mind compromising on a little battery life for greater quality of sound!

What about a small battery powered headphone amp? This will not only improve that battery life of the phone but also give better quality sound. I'm sure they are only aroung £20 but I'm sure idc or another forumite will be able to recommend a reasonabley priced one.

Check the specs. ou need to get some with as low an impedance as possible. The way headphones work is diffrent to speakers, for some reason. Small in ear headphones tend to be about 16ohms, and go up from there, right up to 300 or 400ohms for the large Sennheiser models. If you can get some below 50ohms, that'll be as about as efficient as you'd probably get. But i suspect most will be higher.

Hi mandria. To get the best sound and to increase battery life you would benefit from a portable amp. I have the FiiO E5, but there is also the E1 and the E3. Further up the price scale is the Firestone Fireye and then you head over £100 and iBasso and Graham Slee. All work with either AA, AAA or rechargeable batteries built in.

In my experience, all headphones benefit from an amp.
