Hi group - Apparently nobody makes high quality, wired, on or over-ear, closed-back, audiophile headphones (not earbuds), USB-C connector to connect to iPhone, with iPhone controls (like on apple's $19 earbuds) for volume up/down, next-track, last-track, and pause, on the cord itself (not on the frame of the headphones). It's amazing to me that this doesn't seem to exist. Does anyone know of anything that meets these criteria? TIA (oh and PS, I don't want anything that requires some sort of amp or mixing or other "box" in between the headphones and the iphone)

Wouldn't any sort of device with these controls essentially be a "box" between the phone and headphones? Your options are a small device with none of the controls you want as someone else already suggested or a small dongle DAC. USB-C has to have some sort of DAC/AMP to convert to analog. If you don't care about Bluetooth there are some pretty small USB only dongle DACs out there. Even then they tend to only do volume control and not pause/play. Something like the MOONDROP Dawn Pro or Fosi Audio DS2 are pretty small and cheap not to mention they will improve sound quality..

EDIT: they still make USB to 3.5mm cables with inline controls. Just not something I have ever personally needed.
