Well these Grados arrived a little while ago and I've been playing with them. It is early days of course but first impressions are that I like them quite a lot. They are a lot warmer sounding than I thought they would be and I almost feel like I was hoping for a bit more sparkle from them. (caveat: as I mentioned above, I do have some high - frequency hearing loss due to being ancient) I am also using my Hegel 160 here with no EQ and I am guessing when the DX5II arrives there will be a bit more of a trebly sound.

The bass seems to me to be a bit boomy on some tracks but excellent on others so .....

I don't find them as uncomfortable at the moment as I had expected, but of course I've not had a chance to leave them on for long.

All in all this is just off the top of my head at the moment and I should probably sit down and have a nice cup of tea before I listen to anything else, but I'm not regretting my purchase or considering a return so far.

I had the SR80's before I got the 225's, same sound signature, 80's maybe not as detailed. I certainly would call Grado's bassy, I find the HD650's have more bass than the Grado's, but we're talking different ears here 🙂

Indeed, be careful, it is a ruddy rabbit hole and it's so easy to get carried away. Hence why I've got a set of HD598's, HD650's, and a set of HD800S's, and I prefer speakers to headphones🙂

No, I don't find them to be bassy on the whole, and I'm only talking about some music which is from Apple Music, via my Mac mini and into my Hegel. On the whole not. But then my impressions are still forming and I've also found that I had the EQ on in my mac so I edited my post a bit to reflect that so I'm not sure what stage it was at when you replied, Doug. 😎

I am starting to love headphones also. It seems very personal. There's no room to worry about and is quite a powerful introverted, reflective experience.

Anyway, I do like these a lot for now. I'm going to resist buying anything else until after Christmas.
