It seems that a shiny, silver dome is irresistible to a 5-year old with wandering fingers. *shok*

So, does anyone know where I can source a replacement tweeter for my CM9s? Having checked the B&W website, I know I can go through the retailer. I'm just wondering if anyone has gone down a different route?

Cheers!

How about trying a vacuum cleaner with a *suitably sized piece of pipe stuck in the end of the hose?

*Slightly smaller diameter than the tweeter.

Tried sellotape, tried blu-tack, tried suction.

With a vacuum cleaner?

I think it would kill the tweeter dead if I set the Dyson* on it.

* other vacuum cleaners are available

What have you got to lose? As long as you attach an appropriate size pipe/hose (smaller diameter), gotta be worth a try?

Maybe when I have fitted the replacement, I'll be a bit braver with the damaged unit.

I had the tweeter damaged on my cm5 by virgin guy installing broadband in our home. I called bw they said £60 pound for the tweeter but I would have to replace it myself I than called superfi and was £50 for part and labour so got it fixed from them.

Give superfi a call.

You can't fix damaged metal dome tweeter with suction or tape. Only way is to disassemble the driver and use a sphere to even out the damage from the back. Even if you do that, the driver will never perform as intended because it now has weak spots in the material that want to flex and the tweeter will very likely have bad breakup modes at audible frequencies bellow 20kHz. Also it is quite possible the once factory perfect circular voice coil is now slightly oval shaped, which introduces additional problems with pistonic movement linearity.

Replacing B&W aluminium tweeters is not expensive. 60-80 euros, IIRC.

Sounds like a good deal.

I'm in the West Country. Oooh Arrrr. Posting a CM9 would be prohibitively expensive I think. I'll fit it myself....what can go wrong....?

it's always best to replace both tweeters (I read that somewhere i.e. then they are perfectly matched)... the same is done with bass drivers

Wilmslow Audio may also be able to help

Got home from work today to catch my daughter lecturing her two friends about "not going behind the speakers because it makes my Dad sad when he can't hear his music". *drinks*
