I've just taken delivery of the B&W MT-25 speaker package, which is superb. However the sub (ASW608) makes a strange clicking sound whilst on standby. Almost like it's trying to turn on. Is this normal? I've tried changing sub leads and plugging it into a single plug socket, but neither have solved the issue.
Any ideas? Thanks

Hi 007

Nope, that's not right. It sounds as though there may be an issue with the amp module.

I'd either contact the dealer where you bought it, or, if you'd rather, do direct to our support help desk here
ukspares-repairs@bwgroup.com.

Drop them an email and they'll be right back to you and sort you out.

Apart from this issue, I'm really pleased you like the MT-25 system.

Many thanks

Shaun

I could be wrong, but i think I may have the same issue.

I have the ASW610 and have heard this clicking noise. But it is very quiet and can only be heard when you get very close to the unit.

Once again I could be wrong but is this not the sound of current going through sub?

If you have the sub on its 'auto' power setting, and its own volume control set quite high, could be that you're only feeding it a pretty small amount of signal from the receiver.

And since the auto-power is signal-sensing, that could be causing the on/off system to cycle, or its operation to be marginal.

Two solutions:
a) Switch the sub's power selector from 'auto' to 'on', although this will mean the sub is consuming power even when you're not using it

or b) Turn down the level on the subwoofer volume control, and increase the subwoofer level on your receiver to compensate: that should ensure more consistent operation of the auto power switching.

I've got exactly the same issue with my 610.

I know the A solution works but it's a pain to turn the sub on and off all the time, I will try B and see how it goes.

Cheers Andrew

I never use the auto option, always just on or standby.

Andrew just to ask on the settings. I'm sure I read the other day from yourself that the best settings for your sub was to set the volume to around 3/4 and then adjust the level via the amps menu?

Always been very unsure with the settings on my ASW610. Really need to have a sit down and mess around with the dials.

I've tried altering the volume on the sub, but it makes no difference. It's not really a hum or a buzz though, more of a clicking sound, that's why it seemed odd to me. Anyway I'm taking it back to the dealer tomorrow so I'll let you know how I get on.

That would be great 007.

I always thought it wasn't an issue with mine.

Ok, so I went back to the dealer today with my ASW608. They told me, as Shaun stated, that it sounded like the amp module had gone. So I swapped it over for a brand new one. But guess what, the new one does exactly the same! I've searched other forums and there are people with the same issue. I might just have to change the sub, for one that doesn't tick. Anyone have any opinions at subs around the £300. Would something like the REL T3 be a good option?

007have you been in touch with B&W direct at all yet?

Very helpful when I had a minor issue with my tweeters on my 686's.

Mine is such a quiet ticking and it only happens when on standby ( and you head its right behind the sub). Soon as I switch to 'on' the ticking goes to a constant buzz, which makes me think it is just current going through the transformer. Or something like that.

Yes, they said they would be happy to look at it, but I choose just to take it back to the dealer as I thought it would get sorted quicker.

That's exactly what happens to mine, and the noise isn't really a big issue. But my dealer said that if you leave a broken amp module the sub can blow so that's what I'm more worried about. I'm happy with it's performance so I don't no whether to keep it and hope its 'normal' or to change it for a different sub all together.
