B&O Beocenter 1800 turns too slowly. How can I fix this?

I played a record with a very fast paced song on this system today and it sounded a lot less energetic. I checked with the digital version and it was definitely noticeably slower than it should be I'd really like to fix this because I really like the record and it just bothers me every time I hear it slowed down.

I had a look to see if there was a speed adjuster on the system itself and found one, however, it seems to only be for minute changes because the rotation is still too slow.

Should I replace the belt to fix this? Perhaps even have a look at the motor?

I should also mention that it's very old (from the 70s or older) so that will probably have something to do with it.

I would say if its an old or original belt then change it strait away. This will be the most likely cause. Good luck!

It probably is, it used to belong to my grandpa and it's been put away for a long time.

Out of interest, why exactly does an old belt slow down the rotation? Does it slip or something?
