Ok, so I have more or less decided to go ahead with the Neutron 5 for my bedroom setup from a rather short shortlist that had ProAc Tablette Reference 8 and Spendor SA1 along with it.

Now my question to you guys is, will it be a good pair to the Denon DM37 or Marantz M-CR502? My be the Neutrons do deserve better gear to drive them, but due to my current space constraints, I have to be satisfied with the above machines.

Any comments in this regard is much appreciated. Thanks!

Well mine are on the end of a Primare A20, so they deserve better in the long run, yes. Whether they'll work well with your current gear depends on how much current the amps can pump out, as the Neutrons aren't terribly sensitive - 87.5dB. Have you heard them together?

Thank you JD for the quick one. Well, I have not heard the speakers yet. As of now, purely trusting the reviews and recommentations from fellow members!

The Denon DM37 has 30 wpc @ 6ohms while the Marantz M-CR502 has slightly higher 50wpc @ 6ohms, I guess this should be good enough to drive the Neutron 5. The sensitivity of the Neutrons as you have pointed out is still a concern though.

I did hear the DM37 with stock speakers but they sounded way too boomy and muddy. The Marantz CR502 sound better but once you raise the volume beyond half limit it becomes really "shrill" (if I may use that word) with the RS1. However it was better with BR2. My favourite Diamond 9.1 dint shine at all with the Marantz surpricingly.

Best Regards.

Surprises me that the Diamonds didn't suit, but hey - they're 6 ohm so bit harder to drive, maybe that was it. I'd expect the Nutrons to be a bit smoother than the MAs, they have a very high quality soft dome tweeter. But do listen, they might not work for you at all.

Surprises me as well,i,ve got the 9.1,s thru a marantz pm 4001 and i find them a brilliant match, the amp is only 30 wpc but it drives the

diamonds easily,I dont have to go above 9 oclock on the amp for decent listening levels.

87.5 dB/w/m is pretty average but the impedance plot matters too. All in all they are an easy to drive 8 ohms and good sounding with low power amplifiers, although any speaker is always going to be better if you use more power. The special Sub we've designed for them has 100 wpc.

You may have noticed some people talking about them having a brighter sound than some, which actually means they have better controlled Bass and more open (clearer) mid band and this makes them less suitable for harsh or bright amplifiers.

Hope this helps.

The Denon M37 is very good but with perhaps a slight tendency to brightness, so be sure to listen to the combo if possible.

I've always been very impressed by all the Neutrons, but this has been on the end of good electronics from £1500 integrateds, upto 500w monoblocs.
