Hi,

I am looking for some advice please on how to connect my Yamaha RXV3900 AV receiver and Denon Blu-ray player wirelessly to the ‘net, as they both have Ethernet connections. These are both located in our lounge.

I currently have a Netgear DG834N RangeMax NEXT Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Router located in my study connected to BT broadband, and this is used to connect my Desktop PC (located in my study) and to wirelessly connect our laptop PCs to the ‘net.

It would also be very desirable to be able to wirelessly send .mp3 files that I have on my Desktop PC to the AV receiver.

So, what do I need to get please ? Budget is flexible, sound quality is important. Many thanks.

Hi Russell,

Connect both your Yamaha and denon players via RJ45 cables to your router and assign them static addresses. you can then stream music to them using software on your laptops that support windows media connect, such as windows media player 11. All you need is the router assigned IP of the yamaha.

Hope this helps.

Hi chanukav,

Thanks for the reply.

I didn't want to run cables from my router in my study as this is some distance away on the other side of the house to the lounge where the AV gear is. I was hoping to achieve this all wirelessy, maybe using a gizmo like a "wireless bridge" (I think that is the correct term ?) that would wirelessy connect to my router and then connect my gear to that. Does that make sense ? I'm not sure if Netgear sell anything suitable though ?

I should add that the the laptop PCs are our employers property, and no new applications can be added, so would rather leave those out of the equation. Thanks again.

Hi Russell,

If you type "wireless bridge" into Google, you'll see a plethora of options to do what you want. If you specifically want a Netgear one (though there's no reason why you need to), then this one looks okay.

What are you intending to stream to the Yamaha though? I'm not entirely sure how it works, but if the Yamaha is standard, it will need some kind of DLNA compatible software (like TwonkyMedia) which shares the MP3 files on the computer so inevitably you will need to install some software somewhere...
