B&W LCR 60 S3 centre

REL Quake Subwoofer

B&W M1 rears

Looking to upgrade my Yamaha to an up to date receiver that will handle 4K. Sky Q is coming and a new TV wil be purchased soon enough. What I want to know is how much can I get away with spending?

Will £500 - £600 units rom Sony or Yamaha be sufficient or will I have to spend more? Livingroom is 5m X 3.5m so not exactly a huge space to fill. Thanks.

Yeah bigboss, was really hoping I didn't need to spend nearer a grand, and wondered if I'd get away with £500ish models. Hopefully somebody with first hand experience of some units can guide me.

I went from Yamaha RXV1900 to Marantz SR7009. There was a definite upgrade in sound. On that basis, I can recommend the Marantz SR7011 (available for £899 at Peter Tyson and £849 at Hi Fi Confidential) wholeheartedly. RRP at launch was £1499.

Any of the Marantz 6010, 6011, 6012 or the 701? equivalents, or their Denon equivalents, which on paper have more power.

If you're not planning on going above 5 speakers the Marantz 501? models might be worth a look at, although you might have to crank up the volume knob a few more notches.

I have a Marantz 7010 driving an 11.2 set up in a 6m x 4m media room and its plenty powerful enough even at 60%.

the Yamaha 1070 is very good but over your budget i thought the new sony Av thats won lots of awards is around the £500 mark ? and maybe if you went to richer sounds you could buy one just under the £500 mark ?

or go for a Yamaha 1060 secondhand or ex demo if you can find one at that price

I've got my 7009 in a 5.1 set up in a 6.5x5.9m room and if I get near to 60% it's way loud...
