Hey guys

Zone 2 on my av amp is only compatible with analogue sources and I need to connect my Xbox360 (streaming audio) and my Pioneer bluray (for cd). The problem is I only have one input left. I've looked at several different switch boxes on ebay (a couple below)

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200404467542&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_3567wt_939

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190323757839&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_689wt_939

and one on Maplin

Does anyone know if these will have any noticable detrimental effect on the sound quality, can anyone recommend any of these or an alternative one?

Cheers

I'm looking for a switch box myself -- to make an improvised 'multi-zone system'.

There's several switch boxes out there, but they're either so cheap they're probably rubbish, or have a very limited set of inputs.

I've though about building one myself -- but suitable switches are hard to find.

Little or nothing for analog audio on that list...

Today I found this:

http://www.goldpt.com/sw4.html

It's rather expensive, but then it uses expensive components (the switch alone worth more than a quarter of the prize of the complete box).

B-Tech makes less expensive alternatives, but they look ugly and I've got no idea about the quality of the components and how they're connected.

Bad contact might reduce sound quality, and the switch itself would of course be the weak link. Cheap stuff also tend to have bad solderings. Whether there might be more serious problems, like impedance mismatch, in a simple device like a switch-box I really don't know...

We've found the QED switch boxes to be some of the better ones on the market if you need to switch between sources. Purists swear against them, but they're useful from a practical perspective if you pick a good one.

Ive had to use a 3way switcher recently, to split up the stereo from my pc, to one run to hi fi in, and one to tv monitor in.

I had two boxes, one soundlab one, and one radioshack one.

I ended up getting rid of them cos sound wasnt as good as straight phono onto the hi fi. It was almost as if the sound sounded mufflrd and distant, when switching thro the boxes.

It was ok on the tv moitor sound, it was only on the hi fi sound i could tell. Both boxes dont have gold plated connections, maybe its an idea to buy a half, decent one if you want to do this without noticing much.
