are front ported or backported speakers better?

one of them will be against a wall in the corner. the other one may be out in the open. will that make a diff?

I'm thinking of floor standers

so they both either have to be against the wall, or both not?

i was hoping to be able to compensate lack of wall space by placing one of them in the open

Ideally yes, both speakers should be similarly positioned.

And certainly having one in a corner with serious boundary reinforcement and the other out in the open with none will make the two sound very different indeed.

this is how my space looks today. the boxes are where I intend to put the speakers.

both sides of the 5.6m wall can't work cos of large windows and walkway. i don't think i have much choice for speaker placing :(
