The tray in my Arcam CD37 CD player won't open. It plays the CD that's stuck inside and all other functions are working correctly.
I read that Arcam now operate a fixed price and expensive repair service so I was wondering if anyone can recommend someone independent?

Consult your local Arcam dealership?
Tricky otherwise as we have no idea where you live.....
I'd be tempted to whip the top off and have a look myself, probably just a broken belt.

Definitely take the lid off.
If you can hear it grinding away, trying to open, there's a chance it may just be a broken pulley / cog.
A new one cost me under £5 to fix the same problem on my Philips player (and that included the eject drive belt).

If you've got the ability to take the lid off, you can replace the part yourself.

As you can see, in my case there weren't much doubt 🙂
Not necessarily your cause - but worth a look.

I can second "Grey's" advice I had the same failure of an eject mechanism cog on a Marantz CD 52 mk2 not long ago costing 9.99 for a simple repair.

Unfortunately the draw picked up jitter aswell meaning a tray replacement not long after which was also concedently peanuts to repair too keeping a 30 plus yr CDP in action.

I'd definitely whip the lid off.

This firm had a stand at a Cheshire Hifi show last year, and I had a chat with their tech guy about my Nakamichi cassette deck. I’d read their reputation for many years.

Worth a call, as I am sure they’d give you are steer. And try a couple of Arcam dealers too, as already suggested. If you’re not in the UK, I don’t know!

I've already dropped it off at Doug Brady who quoted me £60 to repair. They are Arcam dealers and are just 6 miles away from me. I've already dropped it off but probably should have removed the lid to take a look. They had some amazing kit in there on display like the Marten Parker Quintet Diamond Edition Loudspeakers.

I drove to Wilkinson Hi-Fi to have the cassette well bulb in my Nakamichi CR-7E replaced last year. In hindsight it was a bit ridiculous to drive all that way to have a bulb replaced. I was somewhat annoyed that they quoted me £35 and said it would take less than hour but then charged me £70 having waited 2 hours. They have a good reputation but I'm kind of reluctant at using them again.
