Hi, Had Arcam AVR750, few weeks ago developed crackling noise like old radio noise, from all speakers. It is present is all speakers in all modes except 7 channel stereo. I have reset it. Software, when I try to update, cannot do it online. Through USB, cannot find update, although it can find other files put on USB.
I opened it. 4 large capacitors seems to be bit loose and swollen. I am not sure, it is best to swap them and see.
I am using HDMI input. Checked all HDMI inputs and it is present in all.
Had anyone else had any issue like this before?
I am based in Saudi, Eastern region, nearest general amp repair service is about 150KM away, no Arcam dealer in country.
Any advice would be great. I am OK to do soldering, but donot know how to go through diagnostics.

Why not?
If you're ok with soldering, provided you get the same voltage and microfarad values and observe the correct polarity when fitting - you can't do any harm.

The looseness you describe could even be a dry joint - but renewing them will take care of that.

No guarantee of a cure - if those caps were causing the issue then I wouldn't expect the problem to go away in 7-channel stereo mode.....but you never know. You've got nothing to lose.

Good luck.

Thank you very much Gray.
I was curious if there is a separate processing board, if it is just matter of swapping it with new one. Being lazy.
Where to source circuit diagrams for recievers?

Always worth trying a new HDMI cable before spending big money or a more complex repair.

The sound you describe is just like when a DAC isn't receiving all the data,. Its verry common when when people use a Toslink Cable into a multi channel system. It sounds fine until it encounters HD or 7.2 sound.

Thanks Fandango. Already tried multiple HDMI cables and it is present even in optical in. Thats why I thought, that issue is in audio processing part.

You're not really being lazy, maybe a bit optimistic though.
It's always worth entering model numbers on YouTube, just in case someone is carrying out the relevant repair, to what might be a common issue.

You could try for a service manual, but don't be surprised if it's expensive....and complex.
They often contain block diagrams to simplify things - but don't expect even that to be straightforward enough to understand - and you say that diagnostics is not your thing.......

Maybe consult Arcam 👍

Thanks Gray. There is nothing on youtube or internet. I have ordered those capacitors.
Not contacted Arcam though. I shall give them a try. I suspect, they are going to say, send the reciever in. Donot want any expensive repairs, would rather go for a new amp. Arcam sounded nice.
