Just got back my restored AR t/t fitted with a Moth (Rega) RB251 arm and a cheap Ortofon 510 cartridge. Been listening for about a week and it sounds pretty good. The dealer who fitted the arm advised me to consider an upgrade path in the following order:

1) Change the mat to an Achromat

2) Change the standard counterweight.

3) Rewire the arm with Cardas cable.

4) Change the cartridge.

Which upgrade would make the biggest difference in your opinion?

Agreed, if it's the EB 101 then putting on an Achromat may upset the balance, the counterweight from Rega the original tungsten one will set you back about £30.00 wouldn't bother with a rewire, it's a good deck and very musical and underated so more records will have you smiling.

The Tungsten counterweight is not compatible with RB250/251 type arms. (They have a threaded counterweight.)

They fit RB300/301 arms though.

I agree. Resist the desire to tweak. It is a lovely turntable and if it has been serviced I think you should concentrate on enjoying it and expanding your record collection further.

OK its agreed then. I just simply enjoy the music and resist the uncontrollable urge to upgrade. I must concur with everyone that this is indeed a fine deck, very controlled and clean sounding.
