Well it's my first record fair of the year on Sunday in Stockport (well, it's a book & record fair actually), so hopefully I might pick up a few oldies, in good nick/price etc. I am steadfastly refusing to buy new these days, due exclusively to the cost.

Over the years I have done, and as long as you appreciate that some LPs are only £1-£2 for a reason (ie. some imperfections, a bit crackly, shabby sleeves etc.) then it's a great day out.

Found some beauties today:

Frankie Goes to Hollywood - Welcome to the Pleasuredome

Rolling Stones - Emotional Rescue

Raymond van het Groenewoud - Leven en Liefdes (a briljant Belgium singer)

I think I'm addicted! I should really save up for some decent gear...

Were all addicted fella!

Just carry on buying records as that is what its all about!

Upgrade your system when funds allow......maybe a nice little used amp/speakers and some decent speaker cable!

Got the chance to hit the Pasadena City College Record Fair this morning; first Sunday of every month in sunny Los Angeles.

I picked up a first UK pressing of Gentle Giant Power and the Glory and a first pressing of Henry Cow Unrest; two half-speed mastered Canadian King Crimson albums (Islands and USA), about 8 quadraphonic albums which i didn't already have plus a handful of other interesting albums including Battle of North West Six by Keef Hartley and four still sealed albums (two Vox Bulgaires, the America album Harbor and Quincy Jones The Dude. All in all a good day. The Gentle Giant was in Mint condition with the lyric insert and cost me .... 5 bucks! Returning to England very happy ...

Watched "Searching For Sugarman" at the weekend, and Mrs C insisted that I buy Rodriguez's two albums on vinyl.

Oh all right then. "Cold Fact" and "Coming from Reality" are on their way.

Fantastic film, and what a great singer.

Also just bought...

Laura Marling "Once I was an Eagle"

"Django Unchained" OST

"Random Access Memories" Daft Punk (recorded on analogue apparently)

"I am Here" Savages

Yes I had a nice walk round and bought a few LPs though I thought the prices had gone up since my last fair last year. More evidence of a new boom in vinyl perhaps? Possibly, but the real bargains were in the CD racks, again a sign of the times?

Despite all that I managed to find some decent vinyl from the likes of Oscar Peterson, Herbie Hancock, Nils Lofgren, Elton John, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, and Cochise (who? I hear you ask

).

However the one I'm looking forward to playing properly is this curio from 1973..

Also bought a couple of Nick Drake CDs for good measure.

Don't know all, but I'll hope you enjoy them.

i'm only six months back into vinyl, so I don't really know about prices. I still can get my hand on decent stuff for EUR 1-5.

I have had a rather pleasant morning.......

Went to the dentist down in Portsmouth, replace a filling that had fallen out, no pain happily.

Then onto Palmeston Road, Southsea, bought a loud shirt.

Back to Eastney for a cup of tea at Mums.

Then onto Castle Road for Curried steak Pie, Mash and Peas and another cup of tea at the Pie & Vinyl shop.

What a thoroughly civilised way to purchase records.

Anyway I bought a Jon Hopkins double album called Immunity for £19.99 with an MP3 download.

A month or so ago I picked up 14 eighties 7" singles in picture sleeves in excellent condition, Prince, Thompson Twins, Tears for Fears etc. from Havant Recycling Centre (aka the tip).............. For the sum of 2 of your english pounds.

regards

Derek
