any suggestions for a £150ish cd player to match br5s ??

hi folks , im looking to get one , is that budget high enough to gain benefits ?, ive got a pair of ma br5s and a yamaha rxv765 , im not currently thinking about a stereo music amp , the yam will have to do that job for the forseeable future , but i would like a proper cd player rather than using my sony bds363 .. any thoughts ? ta..

Not of everything they've ever done, no, but the 640c v2 is all the CD player a large proportion of people could ever need...

JD, I never knew CA were so good, especially their CDP's, would this be a good upgrade over my ageing Marantz CD42mkII?

Can't speak for the Marantz, but the 640's one of the best players I've had. I only replaced mine with a Primare for the knobs...

Max, there's a Marantz CD63( not KI Signature ) for ?75 and/or an Arcam CD 72 for ?135 on Adverts.ie obviously you'd get these cheaper and maybe you want to get new but just an idea................

it just ocurred to me.my 1989 or 1990 sony Cd player is now dead.my discman from 93 is also dead( and burried) .many sony's cd players Ive seen dead.CA uses Sonys laser reader...so...it should be unreliable?

In which case, why not stick with the Sony? Plugged into the Yam it should sound pretty reasonable on CD anyway, unless you simply can't hack those horrendous load times

I myself wouldn buy a dedicated cd player if I had the bd already.Ive heard cd or mp3 coming from the ps3 and it even sounded good to me ...

cheers guys , i guess ill just use the sony for a while then , it does sound brilliant to me , actually its strange , all ive played the last few days has been cds , ive only glanced at a few blurays to see what the sound was like , but im loving my music , i bought 3 cds today , having been initially bowled over with hd pictures last year , im now thinking , why havnt i been listening to music lately , im loving it with these speakers

At 278USD the tubed MHZS CD33E cd player have beaten many respected more expensive cd players on a test.

I tried to buy the one they had left in the Glasgow store. The ex display/open box one advertised on the web site was nowhere to be found. They did have a repair one though! I had a wasted trip because the website was wrong and was very narked. A letter has been sent away - yes a letter because there was no direct e-mail facility.

Annoyed and disappointed.

ear - I think 20 years is pretty good going for a CD player to be honest. Lasers and moving transport parts don't last forever.
