Good Afternoon

I would greatly appreciate any guidance on my upcoming upgrade. I have been using a Jamo A102 setup for over 20 years, and I feel the time has come for a significant improvement.

After extensive research and reading numerous glowing recommendations on the forums, I have decided on the Wharfedale 12.3 floor-standing speakers and the Polk HTS 12 subwoofer. However, I am now considering whether my current Yamaha HTR-2071 receiver will suffice or if I would see a substantial benefit from upgrading to the Marantz Cinema 70s.

Would the Marantz offer a noticeable improvement in performance, or would my existing receiver still do these speakers justice?

I truly appreciate any insights or recommendations. Many thanks for your time!

Best regards,

RB

Welcome to the forum. A few questions.

Do you need a multi-channel receiver for DVDs, TV etc? A dedicated 2 channel integrated amp will not only be more discreet but will give you a better balance sound overall.

I haven't heard any Jamo speakers for decades but my mate had some, and he upgraded them to Mordaunt Short floorstanders (budget model).

What is your max budget? What size room do you have?

Thank you very much for your reply!

At the back, I will have a PlayStation, Xbox, Sidoo box, and a video player connected. I have already purchased the speakers and subwoofer and am just awaiting their delivery.

I had initially planned to order the Marantz Cinema 70s, but I started wondering whether it would offer a significant improvement over my current Yamaha receiver. I’d love to hear your thoughts on whether the upgrade would be worthwhile.

The room size is 18'x15'

Many thanks again for your time and advice!

The Marantz Cinema 70S, is a great AVR and would greatly improved the sound of the basic entry Yamaha. It has all the connections you need for your game consoles and Blu-ray/DVD etc.
What are the other speakers you ordered, just curious.

I plan to use a 5-speaker setup with my system. For the front speakers, I have the Wharfedale 12.3 floor-standing speakers, and for the center channel, I have ordered the Wharfedale Diamond 12.C.

For the time being, I intend to keep my existing Jamo A10 satellite speakers for the rear. However, I do plan to upgrade them in the near future, likely opting for another set of satellite speakers from a different brand.

As Jason said, the Marantz either in full multi channel or integrated form are very good. That said, I've not heard the Yamaha.

Whether the Wharfedales and Polk will give you the required upgrade, only you can say. We all hear different things in a audio/visual set-up. This is why it's wise to demo before parting with any hard earned money. If they came with a returns, it acts as as safety net. Just in case, of course.

Good luck with your new bundles

That's cool.
Recently I've upgraded my old Denon AVR-2807 with another Denon AVR-X1800H 7.2. This had Atmos and this gave me an excuse to extend my speakers from 5.1 to 7.1 setup.
I got a pair of Polk Audio Signature Elite ES10. These absolutely hit the spot, not expensive but good quality.
They incrementally come in three flavours ES10, ES15 and ES20. Worth exploring.

I've just gone and ordered those :) fortunately, I was able to take advantage of a 20% voucher as well.

How did you mount yours?

I appreciate you have just ordered some speakers and mentioned ordering satellite speakers from another brand (out of interest, why? Size concerns with the 12.1?), but, if you are going to be using surround sound it is generally best to keep all speakers from the same manufacturer/range so that the overall tone/sound is more cohesive.

Not to say that mixing brands won’t work but the same manufacturer/range should be better.

Oh well done, you don't waste time 😁
I promised the wife these will be invisible.
Not ideal, mounted on its side, just too big to stand upright in the cabinet.
See photos.
Best way to mount these will be on a shelf or the wall.
Enjoy, nice gems fully Atmos compatible 1000014768.jpg1000014767.jpg

I believe the OP has the same Wharfedales front and back. Ideally the same brand for all speakers would be more uniform but I don't think different speakers for Atmos or background noise will adversely effect the sound.

I have front and back Monitor Audios, Dali Subwoofer, Q-Acoustics for centre and the Polks for satellite and for movies, they blend well together.
Diversity is our strength 😂
When I need pure audio, for music listening, I switch to stereo 2:1.
