Now having sorted out the arrival of my prize problem (well done) I am now left with a major problem.

I currently have an old Panasonic SA-PT150 home cinema system and now my brand-new Onkyo TX-NR515. So advice please on what I should do to add blu-ray player and speakers for as little as possible but get value from the prize!

Well I suppose if I spread the purchases over a few months ( and nothing else goes hay-wire at home) I can run to a few hundred - say £350. I should say that I live in a small flat with a lounge no more than 15 ft by 11ft so I don't want to melt the neighbours eardrums but it is such a nice piece of kit I'd like to do it justice. Oh and it has to look acceptable or so I'm told. The TV is a 27" flat screen from Sanyo (again not new) but has a fine series of connectors including HDMI

I did have a nice collection of separates but due to some scroat who decided to burn the storage unit ALL our furniture and stuff (including my vinyl/CD collection) was in as we moved between properties it all went up in smoke so I am starting from scratch. (Don't mention insurance companies!)

Cheap and looking acceptable suggest Boston Soundware XS. Haven't heard them but they seem well thought of and look very pretty £230 at Richer Sounds in black or white. Certainly wouldn't look out of place if you only have a small tv.

As for BD player, Sony BDP-S370 or 380 would be my choice, depending on best deal you can find, but Panasonic have some candidates under £100.

One option worth exploring though is whether your existing speakers might work though...

Thanks for that. I have got the manual for my Panasonic system so I will look at the speakers specifications and see if I can match them. If I hit a problem I'll shout !!

The problem you may have is that I suspect the subwoofer will be passive rather than active, so it may not be possible to connect it at all. If I get a chance I'll take a look for the Panny manual and see whether it might be possible...

Taking a look at the manual suggests it's not, so it would be a case of getting a different sub, which all sounds a bit messy. Probably better to just get a matched set, even if it's fairly modest.

Thanks for that - I am a real novice at home cinema! Still this is alittle more than I can afford. Any cheaper ideas? I'm happy to trawl E-bay!

Would a Tannoy FX 5.1 set up be OK?

Again, the Tannoy FX 5.1 has built-in amplifier. This won't suit your requirements. You want passive speakers with an active subwoofer.

Just to confirm that the Tannoy FX 5.1 would be OK as they are passive speakers and a 100Watt active subwoofer.

I used to own this a long, long time ago and you get 15 meters of cheap speaker cable in the box for free, it’s OK for a smallish room.

Here is the PDF to the FX system.
Tannoy FX 5.1.

007L2Thrill - now that is good news! E-bay has a couple for sale quite cheaply and so that plus decent speaker cable would fit the bill along with second hand Sony Blu-ray player. Problem solved and still money to spare. PS impressive name!

No problem mate! Glad I could help, and cheers the name was meant to be 007L2Kill as in bond, but when I joined the system would not take the name so I changed the Kill to Thrill and it worked only problem is it sounds like bond in a porn movie.

P.S when you get it all set-up come back and let us know what you think!
