android box

I have a firestick connected to one of my TVs the other has Sky why should i buy a Android what if any advantages is there ?
There's Android media player and there's Android TV.
I decided few years ago to cancel my BBC TV licence, What's the point I get everything on streaming.
The Android media player is like a general purpose media player and can be quirky to use.

An Android TV is designed for streaming and much more intuitive.
You got pay per view, you got free channels or you can subscribed to Amazon, Netflix, Apple and others.

I've taken some photos to give you some idea but you're right, you may not need if you already have Amazon Fire stick

im now wondering why am i still paying for a TV licence i never use the bbc app.
Ditch it, you won't regret it but you have to do it properly.
You can download properly worded legal letter from the internet.
This will stop them harassing you with unsolicited visits.
Most of BBC dramas are on Netflix anyway 😊

Can you. I thought if your TV was capable of receiving BBC broadcasts then you had to have a license?

Only if it is live BBC broadcast or if you're registered to use their iPlayer, you need a licence. Third party entities like Netflix, who have purchased BBC dramas/shows from them are allow to transmit recorded programmes to their subscribers.

There is some discussion I believe in the House, that they're considering changing the status of Netflix, Amazon, Apple, Hulu and all the rest, from provider to broadcaster. (Netflix is starting to show live wrestling, which technically is entering the sphere of broadcasting!)

If this ever goes through, then we're liable to pay the BBC a licencing fee!

The Bee Bee See will always get you in the end......but if Netflix cries its heart out to The Big Donald.......
...........I think we can make Scotland a great golf course.....all those lovely new shining hotels.

It's the act of watching/recording live broadcasts + using iPlayer to watch BBC content that is licensable.

As you can legitimately use iPlayer to watch S4C on demand content without a licence

So if you never watch live broadcasts but have a tv capable of doing so why do people keep getting licence reminders. Just a pointless threat??
I thought "on demand" watching of anything on iPlayer was a point made in having a license? It doesn't stipulate what when it comes to iPlayer.
On demand through anything but iPlayer seems acceptable.

NO watching anything live from any channel or streaming service.

NO using iPlayer in ay form.

Personally, I think the BBC should be reduced to 2 channels, paid for by advertising and sponsorship, with the iPlayer becoming a subscription service like Netflix etc. (Radio services should also be paid for by advertising)

Well not pointless as far as the Govt and BBC are concerned, as they'd like everyone to pay regardless, hence the deliberately ambiguously worded threat-o- grammes...

If you visit the TVL website where it tells you what requires a licence it says
"Everything on iPlayer" however if you're observant you'll notice an asterisk with the tiniest small print at the bottom stating,

*A licence is not needed to watch S4C programmes on demand.

Because again they'd prefer everyone paid it regardless, and I suspect that time is coming as more and more people cancel...

Either all TV viewing will become Licensable including VOD from the likes of Netflix or it'll be scrapped in favour of a "media tax" and slapped on the council tax or similar

Well done! High Five 🙂
Also to make it water sealed and to stop unsolicited visits from agents contracted by the BBC TV Licence; there's an official letter you can write, I'm on my work laptop so I can't show you the template but it's on the internet.

Essentially, to stop visits from TV Licensing (BBC) representatives, you can write a letter to the BBC. This letter should clearly state that you do not require a TV license and are not prepared to allow them into your home, and; most import you need to mention in the letter, that you have revoked their implied right of access, which confirms that you are not prepared to allow them into your home or to call at your door.
