Hello!

I'm looking for a little help in finding a new suitable amplifier for my home system, I'm looking to spend around a maximum of £250 really and have been looking at the Cambridge 540A. As i currently own a DE585 i am in need of an upgrade. I mainly listen to rock and a wide selection of electronic music including dnb/dance/trance/house. Any help appreciated.

I currently own:

Amplifier: Sony STR-DE585
CD: Cambridge Audio CD36
Speakers: BAMTM's by Zaph Audio (DIY speakers, Link: http://www.zaphaudio.com/BAMTM.html) Which I'm running in the floor standing enclosure.

These use Dayton DA-175 alli woofers (http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=295-335)

and Seas 27TBFCG tweeters (http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=795).

The speakers have quite a sharp sound but i find i lack in bass a little compared to my old AV120's.

Make sure you audition the Rotel RA04, Marantz PM6002 and NAD C325BEE and see want you think. Based on you musical taste I would recommend the Rotel option, hits the lower frequencies a bit more than the others.

Hey,

Make sure you try the Marantz PM6002.
I listened to both and preferred the Marantz to the Rotel, I thought it was a lot brighter.

You can pick up a Marantz PM6002 from Richer sounds for £200 (just say saw it on their website)
£250 - £270 everywhere else.

No remote with RA-04 either, unless you pay £100 for the pleasure of a RA-05 - same amp with remote.
