Amp and receiver switching

Having made a big mistake last year in buying a Denon AVR 1909 which hasn't got pre-outs, I'm after a switching device so I can use a seperate amp for stereo use using the same speakers. I know that certain people have mentioned the Niles DPS1 but I was wondering if this is the same sort of thing. I wouldn't want to mount it in the wall but just mount it with a surface box somewhere convenient.
