Hi,

I recently purchased a set of Kef 1005.2 & a Sony STRDG820 Receiver, unfortunately the amp was faulty so had to return it but the shop had no others & didn’t even have any suitable equivalents in stock. Could anybody recommend an amp (that is not like gold dust) that would accompany these speakers. My Budget is around £300 - £350.

Thanks

Sorry for your troubles, my gut feeling is, it's really worth trying to source another Sony 820. However, if that is really impossible, it's worth knowing what source you're going to hook up since a few amps might fit the bill if you're only looking for DVD playback and not at Blu-Ray and some others might fit the bill if you are looking at Blu-Ray but have got a player which can decode all the HD formats onboard.

However, in your budget is the Yamaha DSP-AX763 and for only a few pounds more than £350 is the Denon AVR-1909, the Sony STR-DA2400ES and the Onkyo TX-SR606 (NB - all of these are Richer Sounds prices because they are the cheapest I could find quickly and I'm too lazy to search properly so you may find a better deal). All of these will decode all the HD formats onboard and, in my opinion, are a better buy than the Sony 820 in the long term (though could easily drive better speakers than the KEF 1005.2s). Given they sell at about £100 - £150 more than the Sony 820 though, that's not too surprising
