Airport express and wireless internet at same time?

Hi,

Can I use the AE and wireless internet at the same time? The way I see it, there would be a one way connection from my mac to the AE. At the same time, there would be a two way connection between the mac laptop and wireless router (O2).

I have been trying to find out using internet / play for the last 5 hours and have almost given up.

At the mo, I can listen to Itunes wirelessly OR use the internet but want to do both. To do this, I have to change the airport thingy at the top right corner.

you have to configure the ae to join an existing network then it will be fine

at the moment you have two networks which is why it doesnt work

Just follow the automatic setup in AirPort Utility, and set the APE to extend an existing network.

Thanks for the reply. I tried again. Now I get an error message saying "Radio operation mode is not supported on the selected base station" during the setup. Because of this, I can't proceed any further.

Any ideas?

Ok, that bit sorted. Now, when Itunes is open, I can only change the speakers to external, bottom right of itunes window, when the AE is selected as my network. So, same problem, net or music. mmmmmmmm, difficult choice!

you have to reconfigure the ae using the ae setup utility

best is to reset the ae then start again youll need the wifi password type of encryption and network name

choose join an existing network fill in the details and you should be ok do not choose to create a network

sorry cant be more specific but havent used my ae for a while but theres lots of info on the web

Ok, thank you to all that replied.

I was being a muppet. There is a section where a password was required. My mac automatically inputting a 128 WPA password when I needed to put in another type of password (40 WEP?).

Its working now though. I guess I better start saving for a dac.

the inbuilt dac is ok my only criticism is the bass which is a bit lumpy

At the mo I have the optical outputting into a minidisc player (minidisc used as a dac). Sound is pretty acceptable. I'll give the Dac in the AE a go over the week to compare.
