Hi all,

I am lookng to buy a new tv, and its beginning to drive me a bit crazy. Too much choice !!!!

I have narrowed it down to either the Sony 40W4000 lcd or the Panasonic TH42PZ80B plasma.

I will mostly be watching sd broadcasts via freeview plus blue ray via PS3 in the coming months.

Also your input about gaming on these tellies would be most welcome, i.e. whether the Panasonic plasma would be ok to use. Screen burn, lag etc

I'm not bothered about sound because I intend to run this through a receiver and 5.1 system.

Thanks in advance

i had an LCD a few years ago (one of the first bravia's) and hated it with a passion (ghosting, smearing, motion judder, noise and just about every other shortcoming possible) and have recently been deliberating the very same question you are asking. I went for the plunge last weekend and ordered a Panasonic 42 plasma (the 82 model in comet). Got it out of the box last night, hooked up to an old dvd player via scart (its all i have at this moment in time) and watched one of my all time favourite movies: jaws. I was seriously impressed by the TV and am chuffed to bits that i made the choice that i did. I love it already. I doubt very much that any LCD would have produced such a near faultless (to my eyes) picture with that movie and the player used.

Im sat here now wondering what all the fuss was about as i too was going a little bit mad with it all.

i think the 81 has some picture enhancement that the 80/82 doesnt.

The TH42PZ80B is fantastic. No ghosting or motion issues like on some LCD's. I don't have a PS3 but Sky HD images are so vivid I can imagine the BluRay discs would look great. Also, at around £750 it's a good £250ish cheaper than the 40W4000 and with a bigger screen...
