I've just moved into a new house and have wired speaker terminals with QED silver anniversary cable. The speakers will be in the living room and dining room. I have looked at various options but only the Marantz PM6007 has positive reviews. My only concern is that it may not be powerful enough for the size of the rooms and the fact it does not have Bluetooth. Also, a built in DAB tuner would be desirable... Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

A few questions that will help give you the best answer:
  • How big are the rooms?
  • Do you intend to play both sets of speakers at the same time?
  • How much are you planning on spending?

QED silver anniversary to me sound bright

You have to tell us what speakers you have and also the size of the room

wiim streamer has it (bt and net radio)
The living room is 30m2 and dining room 15m2. Open archway in between, not quite open plan but not far off.
Living room speakers are B&W 603 S3 & dining room are 602 S3.

I do intend on playing both sets at the same time occasionally. Preferable under £1k.

In this case I would buy two Sonos Amps or Bluesound PowerNodes. Than you have networking/streaming functionality, multiroom playing and enough power to fill these rooms. A bit more than 1k, but more versatile and you don't have the issues with 4 speakers to one amp at the same time. And less cables from one room to the other.

Cables are already run inside the walls with speaker terminals in place.

It's a big ask for a budget'ish amp to drive two pairs of speakers at the same time in my opinion....even if my current Electrocompaniet Eci 6mkii had two sets of binding posts and the option of A/B speaker outputs ..I still don't think I'd entertain that idea....and it's a powerful amplifier....it's probably the ultimate stress test of a amplifier's capabilities..but if it's your quest on a budget .....I think I would look at one of Arcams AVR receivers from times gone by..hugely powerful, separate speaker outputs and are very capable as a amplifier in thier own right.....but dropped as soon as the latest dolby digital atmos decoding ..etc etc wasn't on board....making these hugely capable amps obsolete for the obsessive home cinema users out there.....a absolute bargain for us hifi folks that just need two channels.....oh and I cannot stand qed silver anniversary speaker cables....lol.....stick to copper stuff...it's just better in every way.

Unfortunately he's looking for a networked amp with Bluetooth etc.
The 2.2 channel receiver he has suggested (Marantz 70) should be fine.
He should be able to get one for £649

No experience with it but I very much doubt that Ultra could cope running two pairs of speakers, that can be difficult loads, at the same time.
The 2.2 channel Marantz certainly could, therefore I know where my money would be going....
And anyway, I thought the Ultra only accepted one pair of speakers??

From an electronic point of view Marantz having the ability to connect to two sets of speakers is no different to using an external switch box.

When playing two sets of speakers at once you are running them in parallel which is effectively like having a pair of 4Ω speakers with five drivers. therefore, just look for an amp that is capable of doing that. I would start by looking at the Audiolab 6000A, or even better the 700A if you can stretch the budget.

You can then look at WiiM, Bluesound, or FiiO for the streaming side of things.

The Marantz Stereo 70s or PM7000N or will do the job straight out the box (although the latter will need a switch box)

I think you are wrong regarding the bit about the amp plus a switch box, at least the way I read it.
Unlike a 75 wpc integrated amp and a switch box driving two pairs of speakers at once the Stereo 70 is a true 2.2 channel amp and will deliver 75wpc to each channel.

I have the 70s with 603 speakers it has plenty of power. You also have a feature called zone A & B for seprate rooms and you can have both on together in stereo. This is called all zone stereo on the 70s.

My explanation of the switchbox is how you read it. The amp will need to deliver more power when driving two sets of speakers due to the lower impedance. For this reason I can no longer use both sets of speakers at the same time in my system since switching to 6Ω speakers. It was ok with two pairs of 8Ω but not an 8 and a 6 as they are now.

As for the Stereo 70, I am suggesting that it would be the same as my amp, and the PM6007 where this thread started. My understanding is the .2 refers to two subwoofer outputs, not the ability to power two sets of speakers. See image below, it has the same AorB 4-16Ω. A&B 8-16Ω instruction that I have. I could be mistaken as I have no hands on experience of the amp.
