Hi

Was just wondering, having ordered this TV last Thursday, am becoming increasingly concerned about negative posts re: clouding issues. Does anyone have anything positive to say about this model? Earlier, having read yet more negative posts, was seriously considering cancelling order and perhaps going for the Sony Z4500.

Does anyone know of any other good 40" or even 37" TV models? Any suggestions appreciated.

I also had the same concerns but went ahead and bought the 40W5500 locally for ease of return, as well as getting a good deal. I've had it over a week now and you can see some backlight bleed in the top left and right corners when images are very dark or on total black screens. I was however looking for such imperfections due to the publicity on this site and from other forums but in real terms it hasn't impacted on the enjoyment of seeing fantastic Blu-ray images from my Panasonic DMP-BD80. I made a distinct effort to find dark scenes to see if it really made a difference and I can't say it does.

SD from Sky does vary in quality depending on the production but overall looks good enough and I'm sure Sky HD will be a purchase soon, though that of course is still a bit limited for actual content. In hindsight I think Panasonic may offer better alternatives and the new Samsung sounds very interesting... but I'll be keeping the Sony and enjoying the near 3D quality that it's Blu-ray images provide. By the way, kinda glad to hear the 40Z4500 also suffers a bit, almost went for that instead

Thanks for replies. We did have a Panasonic and usually we buy Panasonic, but we had some issues with the LZD800 and had to return it as it was faulty. We would have loved a new replacement but they only had an ex-display model left unfortunately. So, decided rather than wait for new Panasonics, see what the Sony's are like. The W5500 was on display in Sony Centre when I ordered one, and it looked good, but I think having read quite a few negative threads after having placed an order, I was a bit concerned and thought it would be good to hear any positive threads!

I contacted Sony today and seemingly there is an intitial 14 day period whereby, even if you simply don't like the TV, you can return it for a full refund no questions asked.

It is good to hear that there are some people out there who are satisfied with their Sony TV's!

Also to add I will be getting sky HD to go with my 40z4500 next week so will keep all updated! I know the HD channels are superb on it, its more the SD stuff I want to see improved? have had my set since saturday now just gone & must say the backlight does seem to be going along with some tweaking to the settings...like others have said the bluray is just outta this world the first one I played was WALL.E and I was blown away!!! I dont think its worth holding out for a huge reduction on this set cos I dont think there will be? get one now before its to late and the stock runs out ;0)....will be back with an update on sky HD.

Just a quick update. Our new Sony 40W5500 arrived late yesterday afternoon and thanfully, it is absolutely fine. No issues with any backlight bleed, HD pictures are excellent, SD even through Sky HD plus box, is okay but it depends on which channel you watch. On channel 5 SD last night, The Mentallist almost looked like HD, but on other channels, the SD I don't think is quite as good as on the Panasonic LZD800 we returned. Overall, for the money we paid it is a good TV, and HD is excellent, and detail is superb. Glad we went for the 40" as it is much better than a 37". Husband thinks it is better than the Panasonic we had!
