Active Speakers

Hello, anyone with experience of the Alesis M1 520 USB Active speakers? Thinking seriously about these, as a "plug & play" option for a workroom based laptop based system.

my housemate has the non-usb version, uses them in his bedroom as a pair of production monitors.

for the price the sound is very good, slightly warm, def not bright. very smooth listen. dont do too well at loud volumes though, so not good if you want to turn them up to the max. but for low/ medium levels of listening, in a smallish room, they are very good value for money.

basshead, no real problem with maxing the speakers out however, can you expand at all on the slightly warm sound. I'm not a fan of the lush overly warm sound, at the expence of detail. l want a monitor to do what it should, a nuetral, true reproduction of the music.
