TV is nearly a year old but I have experienced so far:

1. One channels sound is quieter than all the others.

2. The picture appears as if you are looking through mist but only sometimes

3. When you turn subtitles off and then change channel, they reappear

4. The subtitles dont come on, although on the other tv (Sony X series) in the house they are on screen

I have sent TV back for repair but visited shop where purchased yesterday and they said that they and the repair shop couldnt find any faults?

Is anyone lucky? enough to own this TV and had similar experiences or other problems with Sony quality ?

I had a similar problem (In that the repairers couldnt find any problem) with an old philips tv

I ended up going down to PROVE said fault (The engineer was laughing until I showed it to him, thinking I was talking rubbish ~ I loved his reaction when I proved him wrong

I ended up getting nowhere as philips said it was a 'known graphics problem which was inherrant to the tv' and said it WASNT covered under guarantee, and theres nothing they could do to fix it anyways

Your however is clearly a problem. First thing id do is plug into another socket to see if thats at fault perhaps?

Systematically change what you can to see if you can put the problem down to how its set up in your home. Unplug everything you can and start with the basics. It could easily be a faulty cable somewhere. If your absolutely sure its the tv then take pics/film of said faults and show them directly

Hello,

Sorry to hear about your problems with your 32W5500. I had a 40W5500 until a few weeks ago when i replaced it for a 40EX503 and can report i had 3 of those TV's until i got one i thought i could live with. The first 2 set's i had suffered with really bad backlight bleed plus pixels that were always 'on' (always appeared bright white at all times) so they were sent back immediately, the 3rd one arrived and all seemed well for a week or so untill a horrendous white streak started to appear in the top right hand side of the screen and across all sources. It started to grow in length by the week and so that one ended up going back too LOL.

I did end up with one i could live with but even that was a compromise as that TV still had the backlight issue although not as bad (only noticable in low light/dark conditions). I never had your problem with subtitles but then i never used them so can't comment but what i can say is that the W5500 series from last year was widely regarded as having major backlight problems (i think that is the 'mist' you are seeing sometimes). This would also explain why the shop say they cannot find a fault as Sony refused to accept there was a problem with the W5500 last year despite customers reporting the issue and many forums dedicated to the subject.

Sorry i can't be of much help but i found to my cost that the only way out from this was to buy a new TV....i know, it's not good at all. I did manage to sell my W5500 to a friend who was well aware of the problem so i didn't have to swallow the whole cost but as you might imagine i didn't get what i wanted for the W5500.

picked up tv and a note was attached saying no faults found 'see your manual regarding sound. It is set to dolby digital 3/2.1 as opposed to AAC. This is a approved sony dealer basically saying this is the problem regarding the sound but you have to fix it yourself! There was nothing in the manual but I found on Sony NZ website a 'fix'.
Low TV Volume On Some Digital TV Channels28-04-2010
It has come to our attention that the below models of Sony Bravia, may output a lower volume on some digital TV channels. This is due to differences in the compression levels of the HE-AAC and Dolby* Digital audio streams. This is not a fault with the TV.

To resolve this variance when using the TV speakers, please change Dynamic Range > Audio Set-up, inDigital Set-up, from "Standard" to "Compressed".

**Please note this setting will not have any effect on the digital out connections.

For detailed instructions on changing this setting for the following models:

KDL-32V4000, KDL-32W4000, KDL-40EX1, KDL-40V4000, KDL-40W4000, KDL-40W4500, KDL-40Z4500, KDL-40ZX1, KDL-46EX1, KDL-46V4000, KDL-46W4000, KDL-46W4500, KDL-46Z4500, KDL-52EX1, KDL-52W4000, KDL-52W4500, KDL-52Z4500

found at: www.sony.co.nz/support/announcement/393740

So there you go, now all I have to figure out the subtitles and screen!!!!
