Rega RB808 (?)

Has a silver metal three-point base unlike the plastic base on the RB303 below (and 'selected' RB303s on the RP6) and looks blacker/glossier...

There have been no arms coming out of the factory for a while pending the new models as I understand things, probably to allow for dealers to reduce their stocks. Certainly I've seen the 700 at some bargain clearance prices recently which accounts for the stock shift going on.

I'd be very interested to see what 251 replacement comes out, given it is the arm used by other companies to tweek in preference to the 301 - will it take on board some of the improvements from Origin and Michell and undercut them at their own game, or will the relationship with the OEM modding companies continue? In Origin's case given the extent of their own tonearm line up with prices for every pocket these days I would be surprised if they still need to plug improved Rega products as well.

I agree with Captain Duff that Rega will have to price any new arms very carefully when Origin Live's latest low-price arms are taken into consideration.

It's already out (advertised on their website anyway)...

RB202...

Unlike the old RB250/RB251, the RB202 doesn't have a Rega deck to partner it. (Traditionally they went on the Rega Planar 2 or latterly the P2.)

I don't know if this means an 'RP2' announcement soon or not.

Historically, Rega have always had a deck to partner each of it's tonearms.

Sorry Chebby, you've lost me somewhere. Presumably an RB808, if such exists, will be the arm on the new RP8 due to replace the P7 .... when it comes out. But where did you get the picture - you follow up with something about the RB202 (which is on the Rega website).

Anyway, you don't use a turntable.....

I got the picture from Rega. If you click on the link underneath it (or right click and 'view image') you'll see the URL is from the Rega website and is called 'RB808 profile'.

Because forum member 'Captain Duff' followed up with a question about what replaced the RB250/RB251.

I used Rega turntables for most of the time between 1983 and 2010.

Do I have to presently own one in order to discuss the subject?

I bought the November 2012 (latest) issue of Hi-fi News & Record Review partly because of the article (p120) about the history of the Rega RB arms.

I have always been fascinated by Rega as well as owning a lot of their gear over the decades.

Gosh - calm down, dears.

Actually I clicked on your link and it's not there (now) - maybe put up in error?

Thanks for the heads up, anyway. It's odd that they should (almost) announce the arm before its t/t is out. Maybe Paul Darwin will tell us when the RP8 is due.

Chebby, I trust you'll get your t/t situation sorted soon - or have you stopped using vinyl?

I think that should be a new rule - we on this forum should only be allowed to talk about stuff we own and know intimately.

That's what I do.

Well, you know, when I'm not just constantly slagging people off for the sake of it of course.

Still showing here on my machine (and I have cleared all cookies/cache/history etc.)...

Go to...

http://www.rega.co.uk/product_images/New%20Tonearms/

You'll see this...

8022734197_2df49bab7a_o.jpg

then click on the RB808-PROFILE link...

http://www.rega.co.uk/product_images/New%20Tonearms/RB808-PROFILE.gif

Doug Brady even has a 'place holder' page for the new RP8...

http://www.dougbradyhifi.com/p-2380-rega-rp8-black.aspx

...so I doubt we'll have long to wait.

That's the one.

Listening to the RP6 with a Dynavector DV20X2L I can't imagine why anyone would!

Useful link to the Doug Brady site - about the price I'd guessed. Perhaps he got his info from this http://hi-fi-avenue.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/exciting-new-turntables-from-rega.html which is a few weeks old. He may have got this wrong though: http://www.dougbradyhifi.com/p-2429-rega-rb708-tonearm.aspx - RB708! with pic of RB700...

I kind of sensed that some of the above 'facts' were, um, bo**x.

This from Paul Darwin of Rega over on the pfm site:

"I do not know where Bradys got this info from, the arm numbers are incorrect and the prices have not yet been established, so it is news to me and complete speculation on their part, at this time.

Rega's own photo of what is labelled an 'RB808' tonearm is still there on the Rega website though...

http://www.rega.co.uk/product_images/New%20Tonearms/RB808-PROFILE.gif

If it's "bo**x" then it's Rega's fault for sticking the picture up and leaving it there. If 'RB808' is an incorrect arm number then it's incorrect because Rega labelled the photo with the wrong number.
