Each Nd7 MM is carefully hand-built in their custom facility in Essex by Rega's highly skilled technicians. The design utilises a completely new generator geometry with perfect symmetry to help achieve highly accurate channel balance. The Nd7 also has an optimised pole gap for superior linearity and cross-talk characteristics. The new cartridge is built with miniaturised parallel coils which are wound in-house utilising 38-micron wire with just 1275 turns. This produces a low inductance, low impedance generator giving vastly improved high-frequency response.
Neodymium is used in many moving coil designs, including Rega's own but the Nd7 is believed to be the 1st Moving magnet cartridge to utilize this. The N55 magnet is the world's most powerful commercially available magnet and makes the Nd range a very unique design.
The finished cartridge is housed in a zero-tolerance injection moulded glass-filled polyphenylene sulphide body or PPS for short. This is an incredibly lightweight and rigid material. The low-mass body reduces the stress on the tonearms bearing and helps in free movement which helps give you more accurate playback.”
