Dear WHF,

Asking this question for my brother. He is having difficulty placing his front right speaker (Mordaunt Short Avant 916i floorstander).

When placing this speaker, is 'front' more important that 'right. There are two obvious places, either in front of the seating area but to left of Plasma screen (while still right of most of the seats) OR to the right of the seating area but also to the rear...

Obviously neither perfect, but we assume that in this case Front is the more important factor.

Thanks

Rich

nads,

I agree, but as it is a front speaker it might not sound very good coming from behind either. So the question is what is more important, right or front.

The plan seems to be to place a speaker either side of fireplace so they are left and right relative to the seating area, but the screen will be right of the right speaker.

Richard8:So the question is what is more important, right or front. Both tbh,i think setting it up in any other way than the front speaker's being either side of the screen will sound very odd indeed!

I agree with Richard8, Putting the speakers in any other location kind of defeats the reason behind having surround sound in the first place. I recently had this discussion with my father, for whom the look of his living room was more important than the sound. He went with the looks rather than left/right of the screen and it sounds horrible. If you cant locate the speakers in the correct location, I wouldn't bother with surround at all. (although thats just my opinion)
