I'm thinking about turning my 5.1 system into 7.1. When i purchased my speaker package, (Kef KHT3005SE) i enquired about buying the satellites seperately if i decided to go 7.1. I was told you could buy them seperately for around £100 each, but that is wasn't really worth the money doing so,as the difference was minimal. Can anyone tell me different? My kit so far: Onkyo TX-SR875...KEF KHT3005SE...Sony RDR-HXD970... and soon to be added: Pioneer BDP-LX70A

i have just done this. different speakers and Onk than you, but any 7.1 sound track makes it worth it. Not to sure about the mixed 7.1's as i cant really comment as i only added the 2 extra speakers last night. To sum up at the moment i am not sure if i am happy or not with the spend. need a week or two to see.

7.1 everytime, especially with the 875. There isnt many 7.1 films out at the moment but the ones that there are, are great. The 875 also can play all your speaker "all channel stereo" which is great for music and not forgetting thx neural 7.1 and the rest for films. Bite the bullit and get the 7.1, i did and wouldn't dream of 5.1.

Ps. You don't have to have 7.1 all the time. 5.1 Dts and tru dolby only output at 5.1 unless you change the listening mode. Hope this helps

I personally find there is a lot to be gained from 7.1,increased sweep and more accurate placement of sound effects with DOLBY- EX ,dtsES and even the lesser Dolby PIIx and DTS NEO:6.. If you have a tolerant wife/girlfriend then i would definitely go for it.
