Hi everyone
emotion-21.gif

Totally new to these forums but have turnt to What HiFi many times in the past for good ref, now i'm in the market for a 32" LCD Tv with a budget of £600 maximum and am in total confusion over what to buy
emotion-7.gif
So much so i've put off getting one for several months but promised i'd buy a new one next week to the wifey... so i'm dead if i don't lol.

Basically what i'm looking for is one that will play PS3 games well as we'll be using it mostly for that and 1080p content for the animes we download weekly, some normal tv too of course! I've looked at the "Best Buy" section and it seems the V5500 by Sony is the best bet for £600 mark and i can get this for £539 from RicherSounds with a 5yr cover. Thing is i'm not sure how old that chart is and if it'll be that great for playing PS3 on as other reviews and advice i've asked has mentioned "Input Lag" and other issues LCD's can run into, which has sent me off abit confuzzled!

EDITED BY MODS – House Rules

The options i've narrowed it down to are:

LG 32LH3000 - £395

Sony KDL32V5500 - £538

Sony KDL32W5500 - £638

Was advised against the LG 32LH7000.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as i have to preorder it Monday so i can pick it up later on in the week.

Cheers all :)

Hi, I'm in a similar situation to yourself, I am in the market for a 32" for use with my PC, XBOX 360 and Sky HD. I have been looking around but still am not too sure about what set to buy. I have found the Sony KDL-32v5500 for £481.90 on digitaldirect.co.uk and the Samsung LE32A558 for £349.00 on 1staudiovisual.co.uk. These are the two sets I have narrowed it down to, maybe the Sony KDL-32w4000 as well, I was thinking that the Samsung would be a no-brainer because of the great price, and WHF review, but I am not too sure if the extra performance is worth the extra money. Any help would be much appreciated by myself, and soonforget. Thank you.

Edit: Sorry, I forgot to say that the £481.90 Sony KDL-32v5500 from digitaldirect.co.uk comes with a free 4 year warranty too.

Hey Darren

I think the performance is deffo worth the extra moolah on the Sony's, if we're gonna end up shelling out for a new Tv we may aswell spend an extra few quid for one of the Sonys imo. I've read tons and tons about those Sony models and where i'm no expert to say the least, I've become abit of a Sony fanboy from it lol. From what i gather the song models have much deeper blacks, small input lag which'll be good for our gaming including "Game Mode" to let the console of choice make proper use of the tv's performance, also the connectivity is great just to mention a few plus points for Sony.

Great find with the pricing mate

trying to figure out now which i wanna go for, works out an extra 30 quid for another years cover (5yr) from RicherSounds though 4yr from digitaldirect seems like it'd be enough, you can also get a nice looking [/b]ST32B3CM Tv rack combo offer for the same price as RS, hmmm!!

Hopefully somebody will help us make a final decision mate

I was considering getting this one for my parents: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-32PFL5604H-10-Widescreen-Freeview/dp/B00200LT8K/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1250463787&sr=1-2
worth a look at that price me thinks. The same site seems to have some great prices on the other models you mention above too. Hope this helps. :)

Hi Paul

Amazon has a V5500 for £490 but that comes with a standard 3yr cover for Sony Bravia models, DigitalDirect has it for £482 but this comes with a 4yr cover (though *delivery which is a must @ DD i think is £30 / £512) and RicherSounds has it at £539 with a 5yr cover pick-up or £564 if needed delivered.

Pretty sure this is my choice (though would greatly appreciate input lag/response times) so it all comes down to how much an extra year or two cover is worth. As for your Panny for £456 assuming it comes with a standard 1yr cover, i think you're better off with a Sony Bravia model too for an extra £34 you're getting 3yr cover as standard and alot better of a Tv imo.

So it narrows down to:
  • V5500 + 3yr cover £490 (standard)
  • V5500 + 4yr cover £512 (+£22 for 1yr extra)
  • V5500 + 5yr cover £539 (+£49 for 2yr extra)

I'm ready to buy now pretty much lol i just really need those response times and input lag specs for the V5500, also if anyone has any experience with playing a console (PS3 or 360) with the V5500 that'd be great to hear your opinions also

Thanks

Edit: Okay i don't think i'm allowed to link to other forums on here (confirm?) but i found a great review for the V5500 and many many users that say they have no problem with it for gaming and basically pretty superb picture quality for the money, the bluring is very minimal if any for gaming also and the input lag seems to be nice and low, especially when using the "Game Mode" in scene selection, wish i could link to the thread but anyway... it's polished off my last worries on the subject, deffo buying one next week

hope this helps

Hi, I have just had a quick look on the tinterweb, some review site I have never heard of that looked "kind of professional", says that the the response time of the Sony KDL-32V5500 has a response time (grey to grey) of 7m/s which seems OK to me. I don't think 7m/s is that bad though, I don't really know my response times though. I am not 100% that this is correct, but I think it probably is.

emotion-2.gif

I've read so much about it now, reviews / RT LT tests and the like being super paranoid about what i'm buying lol i think i'm gonna get just what i'm after, mainly being a great tv for my PS3 through HDMI cable, so we'll see!!

I'll post when i get it how everything turnt out for anyone curious about buying a V5500 for similar reasons so hopefully it'll help

Evening everyone

Just a little update, i ordered my TV with a Rack deal on DigitalDirect.com, it's been two weeks now past the 'supposed' delivery times according to their 3-5 day policy on their website. Still nothing has been recieved, i've contacted their 'Live Chat' operators over ten times now, last week i was told early to mid this week and now i've just been told AGAIN it's going to now be next week "Early next week has been confirmed" ...seriously awful service and if anyone has been considering this company i'd take the time to reconsider.

The amount saved by their offer has been rendered useless basically and
i would of been better off going with RicherSounds or Amazon.

Just thought i'd let everyone know incase they were considering DD, at the moment atleast the service is ridiculous.

Just recieved my Tv a few days ago, aside from the horrid delivery wait and rubbish customer service!

The Tv is amazing in all aspects, so if you're considering a 32" V5500
Sony Bravia and you're unsure, don't be!! It works brilliantly with my
Playstation 3 and without going to all the ins & outs, it truely is
a brilliant buy.

Your two best options as of right now are Amazon for cheapest price
with 3yrs warranty or RicherSounds, slightly higher price but 5yrs
cover.. worth it if you have one close to you :)

Hope this helps.
