3 way optical splitter problem!

Bought a spliter to run audio from bluray player and sky hd as my amp is old and has no HDMI.

The sound cuts, or flickers. if i wiggle the lead its worse.

Dodgy spliter box? is this inherent of a cheapo box or bad luck?

It could be the switch, is it an ebay job? I haven't heard of any problems with the ones sold by audiovisualonline. Are the cables long? The reason I ask, is the optical cables should be as short as possible and preferably decent quality that fit snugly. Not all optical cables do. I've found the fisual pro to be a good budget cable at around a fiver.

got it from Maplin. leads are a meter long (smallest I could find).

Guess i should take it back....god to know its probably not a common issue

waiting on the 2010 amp line ups to be reviewed before I upgrade

If it's doing it for all the sources, it's very likely to be the splitter rather than the cable so I'd definitely return it.

yes its all sources. chucked the reciept so just orderd a two way (had a 3 way) off amazon. only need two anyway.

all should be well.
