My favourite film, Magnolia, is released on blu-ray at the end of the month, it's a directors cut and I have it on pre order. I'm looking forward to this as been waiting ages for it to come out.

I would have bought the Lord of the Rings trilogy if it was the extended edition but am not prepared to buy both again like I did with the dvd.

So it got me thinking as to what releases others are looking forward to this year, and maybe ignite my interest?

On the Blu Ray list so far are the following:

Mesrine (pts 1&2)

Star Trek (already seen it - waiting for price drop)

Mad Men season 3

24 Season 7 (No hurry - waiting for price to drop)

Lost season 5 (as for 24)

Aliens Quadrilogy (not sure if it will be out this year)

Good shout re Toy Story, I think they're all released this year. And Avatar should be a stunning looking/sounding disc

Avatar is undoubtedly the most anticipated for me so far - it won't come close to the immensity of IMAX 3D, of course, but should still make for one heck of a Blu-ray. And I like that the film's 1.78:1 IMAX aspect ratio will mean that hopefully there will be no black bars on the Blu-ray Not that these bother me that much, but a film of this beauty deserves the whole screen!

Two big titles for me are The Taking Of Pelham 123, 2012, Smokin Aces 1,2 and two classics Clash of the Titans, and Day of the Triffids, Avatar and Toystory will also look good and im sure there will be more announced and back catalouge released.

Having seen this at the Imax and if the blu ray is in this ratio then this could be the release of the year

We will be seeing saving private ryan this year as well, prob feb or march.

Cant wait for 2012, missed it in cinema.

Gotta be 'Suspiria' out on 18th Jan. If ever a film was made for a giant screen and home cinema set up this is it. The first 20 mins or so of this film are so relentless it will knock your socks off. And the rest is bloomin' good too.

End of.

End of? Oh I don't think so, given that these will be the theatrical releases. Lots of scope for future extended director's cuts, etc...

So the whole LOTR DVD saga will be repeated now with the Blu-ray releases?.....love the films but talk about milking it!

Would love to see the whole Star Wars films on Blu-ray, anyone know of any plans for this?

You think they're milking it now...?

Wait till they get out the blu-ray of the extended cut...

Then the 3D version of the theatrical cut...

Then the 3D version of the extended cut...

And as far as the Star Wars films go, you'd need to play a Jedi mind trick on George Lucas to get the answer on that one...

Aren't these two statements, contradictory?

Surely, by your standards, Star Wars also falls within the category of "milking it", given the number of releases it's had over the years on different formats.

And don't forget also Toy Story 1 and 2.

Fair enough, if that's your' cup of tea 😛

Not mine though, like to watch the film, maybe some deleted scenes, that's about it.

Not to mention most of the extras I've seen on Blu-rays haven't even been Hi Def...

Watched the Taking of Pelham 123 the other night very good. I am eagerly waiting for Saving Private Ryan now that could be brilliant

Quite agree with you Duol, and anyway what irritates the living hell out of me and my dog is that every modern BR I bought doesn't have a resume feature.

Well Watchmen has a Bookmark feature (unique to this disc), but still a brutal pain in the posterior.

I can't understand this oversight by the film companies, esp. when we're forking out fair cash, or maybe Sony et al just don't care??

And you're right as well, most of the extras on BRs are worthless.

But I enjoyed the extra integrated footage on Watchmen Director's cut, and the My Chemical Romance video.

Oh, and the Oil extra on There Will Be Blood was superb - but again this disc has NO resume function at all - disgusting.

As far as LOTR goes - I'm with you - just want the theatrical BR release and be done with it. And if they throw in some Enya or Annie Lennox videos then great. (Wishful thinking).

I'm waiting for Armageddon - the first film I got on DVD and the picture/sound (maybe not the story) blew me away (forgive the pun). So, for sentimental reasons, it's gotta be this one...

if anyone hasnt seen district 9 on bluray , id suggest getting it , by far and away the best picture quality ive seen yet , stunning , great movie too , avatar for this year , if it looks as good as district 9 ill be happy , unfortunately , for me the movie isnt as good ...
