Just today? read a few of the posts from the past week or 2. Epsecalliy like (maybe the wrong word but you get the idea) the one on the queen collectable vynal artical. And he talks about slanderizing the mag with this thread. He sladerizing it by putting very stereo typical remarks at the bottom of very puplic articals.

Basicaly saying that every one that listens to queen sounds like Patty and Selma from simpsons.

Next we'll have to be nice to spammers too!

So what is the accepted etiquette when a first post is accusing website and magazine staff of corrupt review practices and favouring advertisers? (Despite overwhelming evidence that many major advertiser's products have received terrible reviews and the fact that the OP should have known this if he really followed the magazine and website as claimed.)

A cup of tea and a scone?!

I am sticking to my original instinct on this one. You give him 'cuddles' if you want.

Wheres all these terrible reviews?

Polite education usually works better than telling people where to go!

You could have welcomed Michael to the forum and given him PP's answer in post 13 *smile*

That would have killed the thread but then we would have had nothing to talk about *biggrin*

The two brands mentioned are high-end hi-fi manufacturers. WHFS&V is a general consumer electronics magazine these days and not a specialist hi-fi publication, so it is no surprise that they don't review/get to review some products. There are other magazines which specialise far more in hi-fi - Hi-Fi Choice, Hi-Fi News & Record Review, Hi-Fi World, Hi-Fi Plus...

WHFS&V covers its remit very well and includes some reviews of hi-fi which many find very helpful, but for the kit that will attract a smaller market you need to look elsewhere.

Dnt quite agree with you. What hifi reviews Expensive HIFI in the section Titled Temptation almost at end of the mag.

Just try real hard to ignore that sort buddy, there Are real nice people on here tbh...... some are just weird, kinda...... oh and don't mention a 'supreme being' who may or may not have constructed the whole of The Universe as is known, some on here think that they ARE above such trivial happenings ...to smart for such a happening. (they reckon that some 'big-bang' thing happened millions of trillions of yrs ago from a dot (maybe a dot of rock, lol) ......yet we have dino skeletons in USA with dna matter on em from a few thousand yrs ago, this self same 'sort' must be in-on the 'let's teach humans in GB from the Iron Age, rather than tracing back the Arab- Izralite hatreds that go back to the begginings of time, they HAVE ALL the info.

So about UK makers of things that are not listed, meh, never bother, search the web.

They DO tend to 'gang-up' ... watch...

Thanks for the creationist perspective Alan. I can honestly say that The Big Bang, dinosaur DNA and Middle Eastern history were not on my mind at the time but thanks again for sharing.

That's just what I was trying to say. :)

I've been away on holiday so have only just read this thread. I think we should generally welcome new members without jumping down their throats the minute they first post.

I know a lot of people think reviews are paid for, but that simply isn't true. I know because I work here and would never allow it. Yes, we do generally rely on manufacturers to supply products for review, so if they choose not to, their products might not get tested.

That said, for some popular or important products we do go out and buy them or borrow them from a dealer from time to time if the manufacturer won't supply.

Regarding the OP's original comment about Wilson Benesch and Harbeth in particular, we have covered those brands in the past but they haven't supplied any review samples for quite some time. As someone else pointed out, we do cover some high-end hi-fi in the Temptation section of the magazine (and online), but it is true to say that our core focus is on the more affordable products.

Are you 'avin' a giggle, mate?

Also not sure whether the bolded section would be anti-semitic if it made any sense.

I pointed out about the more affordable stuff covered by WHFI (and Matthew did also).

Think it is right to point out that regardless of the size of Haymarket, it would be impossible to cover every brand on a regular basis.

As regards Wilson Benesch, Sugden, Lavardin etc etc, a they don't upgrade or tweak their models for years it is pointless re-reviewing them, especially when WHFI primarily review *new* products.

For years, not recently, Joelsim, yours truly and few others have posed the question about comparing old products with new in a group test, and even asked about doing a intergrated/power amp comparison with different brands... just make it a bit more interesting, but I suppose time and money dosen't allow these type of tests.

Michael Murphy, do you own any Avid or Wilson Benesch kit?

If you do, I'd like to read your own review of them.

If, over time it seems that you have similar tastes in hi-fi to myself, then I would place as much importance on your reviews as any reviews in any magazines, including What Hi-fi.

The Avid Acutus is one of the few belt drive TT's that I'd be happy to own and use myself. Bit pricey for me, both new and 2nd hand.

The Benesch speakers that I've heard haven't been to my taste.

And when it comes to magazine reviews, I see it as a badge of honour if none of your hi-fi equipment has ever been reviewed by any hi-fi magazines.

I think some of those first responses simply show the rudeness or lack of intelligence from some of the foromites here. It is a shame, and no doubt will be why more decent people are not interested in getting involved on this site. Even if someone comes on here with a conspiracy theory, why would your first response be to tell them to b****r off?! To me, it makes you look dumb, and therefore all your views as such, such as cables. Yep, I just turned this into a cable thread!

I've been meaning to post an apology to chebby for calling him dumb for the past couple of weeks, only just getting round to it. Even if you tell someone else to b***** off, it doesn't give me the right to call you dumb. And you may have been onto something considering the op hasn't posted since, or maybe he was scared off....either way, I'm sorry!

Why are you apologising to him? you were 100% right first time. I wasn't scared off, I have simply moved to another Forum, where people can have open discussions without unacceptable behaviour from Trolls.

I have seen many people who sit behind a PC, but would say boo to anyone.

I do want to say thank you for the people who posted with acceptable behaviour. Thanks again. Cheers
