Hi,

Bought the Dali 5.1 speaker setup a few months ago and now saved up enough to replace the aging Onyko 507 amp.

Been reading around a lot, and the reccomdation seems to be the Yahama RX-V1073.

Ideal budget is sub £500 and prefer to be less if possible but also want it to last at least 5 years if not more. Was originally going to get the Sony 1040, but been told that the Yahama is a LOT better.

Only thing that puts me off is the Yahama is very big ( as in depth ) and may not fit in my Ikea Besta AV cabinet very easily.

Any advise or suggestions ?

Thanks,

Before purchasing, it's an interesting exercise to check the manufacturer's recommended distances between amp and rack to allow sufficient space for cooling. You might need to download the manual pdf's to check this. The manufacturers may be playing over-safe, but it's certainly a consideration you ought to make. Make sure you allow enough space for all the cabling at the back too. The average AV receiver has miles of it to accommodate!

As for amps I love mine, but it is monstrously huge and as I've not heard it with the Dali's I'm not in a position to recommend it for your set-up, but its successors (SC-2022 / SC-2023) are available at around the £500 mark from the usual suspects (original RRP £800 ish). FWIW my receiver never seems to get that hot even after extended listening sessions, although I do have about 150mm clear space above the receiver to the rack top.

Check this link out and review. Peter Tyson have it in stock and comes with a 3 year warranty and their website says it is the same as the 1030 which is a bargain if it is...

Cannot vouch for the Yamaha, but the STR-DN1040 works very well with the Dalis. How big is your room. Mine is about 7m x 5m and the combination fills the room quite easily. Effects are well located. The sound from the source direct is very clean, and the various DSP options are all enjoyable. The price is also selling point now as the 2014 replacement comes out. You could put the saving towards speaker stands for the Dalis (yes it does make a difference!).
