£500 mains cables or a psychiatrist , which one should i choose ??

99% of the time it's people who haven't tried them. I was a non-believer until I tried them, and actually as my system gets better the more important they become.

a touchy subject mate .... see that you are in the 'business', and also seems that you have experience as regards comments/insinuations....

so put your money where your mouth is as regards your cables and make them available for comprehensive tests by WHF and other independant reviewers?

, as for listening tests, pull the other one. It's mains-cables-r-us by the way.

I find the entire mains cable subject quite amusing, yes I do get bored when people say they don't make any difference when there are miles of cheap copper wire carrying the lekky from the national grid to our houses, it's the last few metres that make the difference.

IMO mains cables are just as important as i/c's, hdmi's speaker cables etc, etc.

and type in hdmi, you will get 1000's of the same threads over and over again asking...which is the best hdmi cable...just like asking how long is a piece of string surely?

Nice debate anyway, kept me at the PC instead of assembling bits of wire that make no difference to sound or picture quality, perhaps the 2500 customers I have or there abouts must be fools, or at least in need of a shrink...lol

I think I put a Nordost ECO 3 wipe in with your vishnu, now that should stir up a hornets nest, the ECO 3 wipe is supposed to improve system performance by removing static form the surface of your cables, how about that then!

Sorry, didn't have time to read the whole thread, but I'd invest in something like the PS Audio Power Plant Premier and then worry about half decent cables afterwards.

I've tried loads of cables, including one which was the same makeup and approx. price of the SHB and it was truly horrible. I will say that I have been very impressed by Nordost cables and that is what I'm building with.

A Russ Andrews mains cable I used to have did very little so I sold it.

yes mate we do live in a democracy, at the end of the day if the guy across my street wants to buy a beemer for £35k because it improves his status, if someone wants to buy a mains cable for £10k (odin) so he can say he has the best, we should say to him good on you, not send him to the local psychiatric ward?

Back to the original question, if it's a straight choice between the 2 then I plump for cables

To put another slant on this heated debate for £500 you're getting into the realms of separate power supplies like the Cyrus PSX-R or Naim Flat-Cap XS. If I had £500+ burning a hole in my pocket to spend on a power upgrade for my hi-fi kit I know which route I'd be taking.
