To upgrade or not to upgrade that is the question...?

The replies you'll get will come from those who categorically deny any differences exist, and those who categorically insist that they do. Some dealers are willing to demo the differences - the pianoguy I think. But wait a minute - you have a PS3 - you should be able to see for yourself if this...

    Netflix

is that after a week or so of watching films at such a low picture quality, going back to real hd via blu disc is such a wonderful relief .Like upgrading without spending any money.

Been living with one of these for a few weeks now whilst Richer Sounds repair my old S760. And it just doesn't have the magic of the older player. Fine detail resolution seems diminished; old favourite Prometheus used to inspire awe with those opening sequences , but now it leaves me feeling...

    Television: luminous football shirt edging

That's a really intriguing question right there, and I can't wait to see which smartarse with nothing better to do comments first. Guess it's me then. I volunteer that what you are seeing is standard def material , say ITV 4 via Freeview, and a blue outline accompanies every item on the...

Does anyone else out there like 3d movies

No, I dont . The 3D effect does not look 'real' , whereas normal 2D has a better portrayal of depth and dimension . If I want to watch a film and be drawn into into its world , temporarily forgetting the mechanisms that are producing it - has to be 2D for me.

    Blu ray disks to avoid

Four Lions is little better than the DVD, likewise 28 days later. My pet hate is when the sound is worse on the blu , as with Perfume and The Island. Yes , I know I'm supposed to hate Bay, but can't help loving it. Just remembered some more disappointments... English Patient wasn't a huge...

vertical banding on sony 65 hx 923

Yup, it's common. There is no tweakery that will remove it. Sets vary in degree of awfulness, as does customer acceptance of the fault. There are many many tales of folk world-wide coming to terms with this issue available to read on a US based forum. Don't expect much from Sony, but the dealer...

    Panasonic 42GT30 vs Sony 46HX923 ?

Hope all goes well for you . Would recommend the Cinema 1 preset as a good base for set up. Bear in mind that more than one owner has remarked that the picture can seem a bit rough for the first few weeks. I laughed too when I read this, but after living with mine for a month now , I'm thinking...

    Panasonic 42GT30 vs Sony 46HX923 ?

The silence on this one seems odd, given the notoriety of the 923 set. A little digging will reveal the 'crease' issue with this series and Sony's response to it. Likewise the GT/VT 30 has it's own share of foibles ; buzzing, fluctuating brightness, green blobs.... Such is the TV state of the...

Gladiator Remastered Blu-ray and Exchange Program

Mine took a month to turn up. Was always happy with the original , couldn't understand what all the fuss was about with it . But NOW I can see ...... You know , this was a film that I knew backwards , it was so familiar . But now I'm noticing things in the film that weren't obvious before simply...

Spears & Munsil calibration BD disk............

Consider this : when the Nikon Corporation of Japan were finalising the colour balance of their latest pro - spec SLR camera [ D3 I think ] , they used machines only up to a point . Beyond this they adjusted - by eye ! - to four things seen in real life . With real eyes . These four things were...

    LOTR first impression

You'll never get those DVD's out of the box again after experiencing the blu ; there is simply so much extra detail to gawp at . Should I look at the individual strands of grass in the fields or the textures in clothing fabric ? Should I marvel at the vibrant colours or the patterns revealed in...

    LOTR first impression

Not as bad as the American naysayers were claiming ; echoes of the Gladiator saga again . But then again if I were viewing on 100 inch screens I might see things differently . Anyway , if you were hovering on the brink of buying this then don't worry - it looks much better than the DVD . Fine...

Has the PS3 put the nail in the coffin for seperate Blu Ray Players?

The most relevant factor is the size of your screen , I think . Recently going from PS3 to Sony 760 has given small but worthwhile improvements in PQ - but not huge . And that's sitting close to a 52 " screen . The enormous leap in sound quality was the main benefit really , but again the...
