I have a couple of Devolo 200 AVdesk adapters (they're the desktop version - cheaper than the plug version). They work very well and are extremely easy to set up. I don't have experience of using them to stream HD, unfortunately. The utility than comes with them reports up and downstream rates...

Unless your mp3 player supports mp2 (DAB uses this to compress the audio) you'll need to convert between formats. iTunes will do this, or use mp3DirectCut - http://mpesch3.de1.cc/mp3dc.html which also allows you to edit the files.
