Can a 7 channel receiver use front height speakers??

Hi Oldboy I run height speakers through my Onkyo 809 AVR in Auydessey DSX mode. With the Onkyo you have two DSP modes to use, Dolby PLIIz or Auydessey DSX. If you check out their web sites it will explain how it works, but also they both need to have their front height speakers placed...

    PS3 or Dedicated Blu-Ray Player

Hi AnotherJoe I understand what you are saying, HD sound is HD sound regardless of how its delivered, and before I decided to upgrade to the Denon I believed the same thing, but I can only report what I am hearing and believe me I am hearing a big difference. So much so that my wife and myself...

    PS3 or Dedicated Blu-Ray Player

Hi RD I changed from my fat PS3 to the Denon DBP-2012 blu-ray player earlier in the year and the difference was incredible. There was an improvement in picture quality, but the biggest surprise was the sound, so much more detail. I now know what they mean by HD master audio.

    Do I need a DAC?

Thank you all for your replies. I will rip my music to a hard drive in lossless and hold off from looking at external dacs as your opinions suggest what I thought, that the dac's within the Onkyo are more than capable of doing the job.:)

    Do I need a DAC?

Hi Isac69 The reason I am asking if I would benefit from an external DAC is because I want to remove my cd collection to free up shelf space for my ever growing dvd collection, and by ripping them to a hard drive and playing them through the Onkyo 809 seemed to be the cheapest and easiest way.

this should have read I am thinking of putting my cd collection in lossless form onto a hard drive and plugging it into my Onkyo 809 and I was wondering if i would notice a big improvement in sound if it went through an external DAC?

    Denon 2012

hi all my 3 month old Denon blu ray player occassionally starts up and then the green light changes to a flashing red one. The only way to fix this is to remove the power cord wait then reconnect it. Apart from this it works fine so I was wondering if it was something I was doing like...

Just got free Virgin V+ box

Hi Miggs Glad you got something out of VM, must have been severe probs to write to them and I know what you mean about their call centre. I have found that you need to give them a call every 12 months to see what loyalty discount they will give to sign another contract, because they won't offer...

    ITV HD AUDIO

Hi Could someone please explain to me why with the HDMI audio override in the on position on my V+ box, ITV HD channel can still be heard thru the tv speakers, yet the other HD channels need to have the amp on as expected.

    Losing audyssey settings

Hi jr1948 Thanks for the reply, at least it's not just my system that does this but we must be in a very small minority (just the two of us) as no one seems to be able to offer any advice with this problem.

    Losing audyssey settings

My Denon 1909 has lost it's audyssey settings a couple of times in the last few months. The speaker settings are all there but when I try to turn on the dynamic EQ it tells me to run audyssey. The amp is only swithed off at night and not for long periods of time. Has anyone else experieced...
