    Arcam A85

I like dance and rock, and I'm very happy with my A85. Haven't found anything better, even listening to amps which are substantially more expensive. The only way I'd change it would be if I wanted to go to back to surround sound. I'm one of those types who doesn't hear a massive difference...

Very Best Speakers (max Height 27cm & Width 21cm) for Sonos Connect Amp?

I have some sympathy for The_Lhc here. This is somewhat unusual for me. But still... I can't really see how he can be expected to have an opinion on the Connect:Amp based purely on the fact he hangs about here a bit too much! I don't think anyone who hasn't heard something can say how it...

Marantz M-CR610 finally on official website.

Doesn't that 'M' (in Melody) belong to Meridian? :) I think the '510 is the final nail in the coffin for my thoughts of buying a Sonos. 'Tis pretty.

    An interesting quotation

Blast. I've stayed away from these threads so long that I'd kinda hoped things had changed. Last time I took part Steve was being a good egg. Oh well.

    An interesting quotation

Maybe not in this thread, Steve, but it was a quick general point related to people who claim all Actives share the same traits. See the other thread on the front page. And it was also aimed at people who think all speakers of a certain brand/all speakers with certain drivers or technology, etc...

    An interesting quotation

Yes, but they don't have magic properties, they're just a component. They can make a difference, but not on the level that they're often claimed to (in other words, all you need is an Active crossover and the cabinet, drivers, etc doesn't come into it). Similar applies to cryogenically frozen...

    An interesting quotation

Indeed. It's the same with many things though. If people aren't knowledgeable enough to understand fully the technicalites of the subject, they'll either take for granted what is commonly accepted as the norm, advice from people who are respected in the field, or advice from people who sound...

    Stereo Subwoofers for budget hifi

I'd also rather have one good sub than two cheaper ones. As has been said, subs aren't really directional, so you're unlikely to notice a problem with one. With two, you'd possibly have problems with placement and various other things. I have floorstanders that go fairly low, but they're no...

    Alternatives to SONOS

Won't be long 'til the full Pure Jongo range is out. I'm hanging on to see how it compares. I'm using Apple TVs at the mo. I really want Sonos, just can't bring myself to pay the money for it after using the (much cheaper) Apple stuff.

What does your wife or girlfriend use to listen to music?

She uses the hi-fi. Mainly via the ATV. She's becoming something of a pain. She has a fairly large music collection and she won't let me put it on her iPad at 320k (won't fit in lossless). She's been debating buying a 128GB iPad for a while, to fit it all on in 'CD quality'.

    AE 301s

Good, good! I'll look forward to the review as there's nowhere near me to demo. I'm presuming you don't supply anywhere in the Channel Islands?

    AE 301s

Good to see you around, Jim. On the subject of people receiving demo stock, I don't suppose WHF are receiving 305s? :)

PC as a high quality digital transport

Whilst it will be my main music source, music playback won't be its main use. I have ATV at the mo, and would like a bit more functionality.

PC as a high quality digital transport

I'm currently trying to persuade my girlfriend that we need an iMac in the living room, but she's not having it. Looks like we'll be getting a Mac Mini instead. I'm happy with either of those as my main music device, based purely on the UI/experience. I'm not really a fan of much media player...

    £300 aluminium door-stop

Nah, someone mis-describing entitlements has inspired clarification, and a bit of friendly debate. Sorry it seems like gobbledegook, I couldn't really make it much simpler! The actual returns process itself isn't really that difficult. 1: Contact the retailer. No joy?... 2: Obtain proof to...
