Hi

I recently posted about my ysp2200 soundbar with my old tv. I finally got that working. Now I have a GT50 television with ARC. This has sent me doolaly. Now the sound won't work on my ps3 again. The picture works though. I have been into ps3 settings and changed sound to go via hdmi.

Can anyone tell me in the simplest terms how to make sure the hdmis are in the right slots. My ps3 is connected through arc and my sky box through hdmi and optical. My apple tv is through optical too.

Also, on some programmes the sound from dialogue seems muted as if far behind the TV.

Surely there is a gap in the market where an engineer makes sure everything is working as best as it can for a fee. Chumps like me would appreciate that.

Can anyone help before I put my head in the oven. Then again that wouldn't work as it is electric. ******.

Thanks

I have my YSP2200 HDMI out connected to HDMI2 on my GT50 and I went into the Pana's menu to make sure that ARC is on. (Default seems to be 'off').

The HDMI from the PS3 should go into any socket on your YSP. You should then be able to use the Viera Link remote control to control the YSP and Panasonic TV - I bet it does the PS3 too, but I haven't got a Playstation. Aaah.

Let me know how you are getting on.

Try using an optical, which will give you DD sound, but remember to adjust settings.

I don't think you need ps3 HDMI thru arc as there is no audio to return....ie;no sound coming from tv,but going into.

Hope this helps"

Ta all. Seems to have sorted itself out after using Viera link. I couldn't find where to switch arc on (without finding my lost manual).

I did fiddle with it a bit and god knows if I have messed stuff up. Should I be in cinema dsp?

Could do with a proper calibration though as all presets aren't perfect on my tv.

Cheers

Glad you sorted it out, DJM, I should have reminded you to switch to home cinema sound in the Viera Link. Sorry about that. You don't need to use additional digital sound processing if you are using DVD or BluRay which already has the surround output. (Unless you want to!)

Have you checked the manuals for your equipment on line? I didn't find the Yamaha manual very clear but, nevertheless, there's a lot of info. there.

I asked Weybridge Audio for help with my YSP and they gave me these hints:

The HDMI output from the YSP2200 must connect to HDMI 2 on the TV and you must make sure that the HDMI control feature is turned on in the set up menu on the YSP2200 (Set up > input menu > HDMI set up > HDMI control) if you then press the Viera tools button on your TV remote you will get an on screen menu appear, then select ‘Viera Link’ and in the Viera Link menu you’ll see a speaker option where you can choose TV speakers or Home Cinema, when you select home cinema the audio should be directed to the Yamaha YSP2200. The TV remote should then control volume as well as turning the soundbar on and off when you switch the TV on and off.

Your Blu-ray player should just connect with an HDMI lead into HDMI 1,2 or 3 on the Yamaha - the important thing is to make sure that the audio settings are set correctly on the Blu-ray player, most Blu-ray players give you the option of specifying the preferred audio output (Dolby HD etc audio via HDMI or Dolby digital via optical) so it is important to make sure the unit is set to output bitstream audio via HDMI.

They are great guys to deal with, by the way.
