This seems like a "just because we can" exercise.

The curved design of current LG and Samsung OLED TVs has certainly split opinion. The option to flatten the screen is a step in the right direction, in my opinion.

As you say, I'm sure OLED TVs are curved because manufacturers can do it. I'd rather they made flat OLED TVs and left it at that; but a flexible design at least caters to that requirement.
