According to the latest review of the new YSP 2200 its got the big thumbs up from the what hifi team.

YSP 2200 Vs YSP 4100

Now how do I choose which to buy? I'm not interested in the size or cost of the product, all I want to know is which sounds the best, and gives the best surround sound. The 4100 has 40x2w speakers compared to only 16x2w speakers in the new 2200, which should mean the 4100 gives the best sound - right?

Is anyone else wondering about the samething? After all they even both have 5 stars.

Can someone shed any light on the situation?

And... What difference does it make that the 2200 is 3D compatible? Surely the sound is the same no matter how you what the picture?

WHF reviews are on the basis of price/value, so yes, a more expensive 5 star product should be better than a cheaper 5 star product. Whether you find the extra price worth it, or even like the sound/vision really needs to be based on auditioning it with your own eyes and ears.

There is more potential with the YSP4100 as you can add any sub to it. The larger array of speakers in the 4100 should see it outclass the 2200.

The YSP-2200 has HDMI V.1.4a It is the latest version of the HDMI interface, features 3D for transmitting 3D video signals & an Audio Return Channel lets you hear the TV sound from the YSP-2200 via a single HDMI cable, with no need for an extra optical cable.

Hope that helps

I think the YSP 4100 will give me the best room filling sound.

I also like the idea that I get to choose my own subwoofer. I have always fancied the B&W PV1

Maybe now this new soundbar has come out, a bargain could be had when the price drops.

How do these soundbars cope with "less" then ideal rooms, for example in our room our tv viewing/seating position is off centre towards a side wall, we have two windows with curtains, canvas paintings, a mirror etc.. would the sounds bar still work well in this type of room?

I wonder that too and its exactly the type of thing I hope to find out at the Bristol show.

First time I saw a Yamaha soundbar at the Bristol Show (which I think was the first one Yamaha made) they actually created an "ideal" room especially to show it off. Can't remember seeing them since but they usually tend to set the rooms up as ideally as possible, so you might be out of luck.

My parents have (and enjoy) a Yamaha '4100 soundbar in a less than ideal room - a dogleg-shaped room with a large patio window on one side. The system does have a set-up mode that 'measures' the room, which helps.

Thanks Claire.

Failing this I'd be happy with a system that just gave decent stereo sound with a sub as neatly as this system. But I would not pay £800 for it. This, however...
